Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And l am finding really heard to adapt.my condition was through steroids. I have other health issues Which means I can not drive. Please could someone help with advice regarding keeping my blood sugar levels down. I have lost so much weight in a very short time as well. All advice will really appreciated

Welcome to the forum. Steroids are recognised as being something causing diabetes. However as you have lost weight pretty rapidly this suggests a diagnosis of Type 1 or LADA not Type 2 though other factors may come into it. It would be a good idea to question your diagnosis with your diabetic nurse or GP and ask for the tests which would help to get the correct diagnosis those would be c-peptide and GAD antibodies.
If your Type 2 diagnosis is correct the most effective way of reducing blood glucose is by restricting the amount of carbohydrates in your diet.
Your HbA1C result will indicate how far into the diabetic zone you are (48 mmol/mol and over is diabetic) and how much work you will need to do to get it down. Know that will help people give you suggestions. Meanwhile you may find this link helpful https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/ and also the Learning Zone (orange tab at the top)

Perhaps @janw may be able to offer you advice about the effects of steroids.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
It sounds as if you need to visit your GP sooner rather than later as you sound more like type 1 thus you need insulin.

I will phone and make an appointment regarding whether I'm type one and not type two. Thank you for your advice

Hi @Joshua, hope your doing well! The best thing to do would be to contact your GP. We also have a helpline team available if you want to talk through your symptoms. Call our helpline on 0345 123 2399, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Welcome to the forum @Joshua

Hope you are able to get some clarity over your classification soon. Unintended weight loss at the time of a diabetes can be a bit of a ‘red flag’ for us on the forum - we see a few newcomers who end up needing to switch diabetes types after further investigation.

As @Jacqueline DUK says, do give the Helpline a call to chat things through 🙂
