It does NOT say it's 'diabetic' or even 'suitable for diabetics' - it says 'For diabetic recipes visit ......'

Didn't even know recipes could get diabetes, did you? 😉

just about to read the eating well with daibetes. also just made another donation.

wishing everyone a good weekend...

SB2015 - A food dairy is something I will do. I've already started looking at labels hence shock how many items have carbs/sugar etc. Thanks for the idea.
you could try a smart phone app such as myfitnesspal or similar to count carbs and food in general. I avoid all beige food now as I have worked out using finger prick and bg meter that it disagrees with me.

Cherrelle I've been keeping a photo of my blood sugar test results but not got round to put them into a spreadsheet yet. Can you get blood sugar level kits that update a app say via bluetooth, if so love to hear some recommendations.

TrueMetrix Air uploads to a phone app & can connect to a PC app via USB.
Countour Next One also integrates with a phone app, and if you use Apple phones the readings are added to your Health data and gets synchronised with things like mySugr.

Both are very consistent with multiple readings on different fingers, but the strips are a bit pricey. When doing some tests I found these two tended to give very similar results.

I also have a Gluco Navii that allows you to upload data to a PC via an app and a cable (Purchased separated.). Strips are cheap. I don't like it much.

Welcome to the forum @philsbbs

As others have mentioned it is important to look at the carbs we eat, it just focus on sugars. Any carbs that we eat gets converted to glucose once inside us. Things with sugar may well get converted more quickly and spike our levels, which makes it harder for the pancreas to release enough insulin to deal with it.

A good step to start with could be to work out how many carbs you are currently eating at each meal. It is a bit of a hassle but worth it to get a grip with this. There is info on packets, and with a bit of weighing you can start to get familiar with the carb amounts in things that you eat regularly. We were surprised when we started to do this and made the decision to reduce our target number of carbs for each meal. One thing we found useful to do alongside this was to reduce the size of our plates so that portions didn’t look so small.

let us know how you get on.
One thing I started to do was to put the food out onto the plates in the kitchen rather than taking to the table in serving bowls and putting any extra in a tub for the freezer rather than just having that 'extra' spoonful.
I also stretched what would have been 4 portions of things like chilli, curry, casseroles and the like to 6 portions putting 2 in the freezer for a home 'ready' meal.
You eventually develop strategies to make your new way of eating work for you.

You often see things that say Suitable for diabetics, and I wonder if this is legitimate.

No it’s not. Even now we’ve left the EU. The regulations are here, the salient bit being 5.10.
'The FSG Regulation reiterated that specific compositional requirements would not be developed for foods for diabetics due to lack of scientific evidence. This confirms that there is no specific category of dietetic products that may make claims of their suitability for diabetics.'
