Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Well I got it down to 52 from 56 in 3 weeks. It wasn't a surprise I have finally succumbed to diabetes. Grandma and mother both had it.
But I will fight it as much as I can!!!

As any one on here ever heard of the diabetic flour your can get???

That’s a great achievement with HbA1C in only 3 weeks! About the “diabetic” flour. No food in the UK is allowed to be branded as “diabetic” or “suitable for diabetics”

You may be referring to almond flour which can be used instead of wheat flour in some recipes but you can't just make a direct substitution and get the same result.
It is unusual to have a repeat test other than to confirm a diagnosis in 3 weeks but whatever measures you have taken are working for you so keep on with the good work. It is better to bring levels down slowly as it is less likely to cause eye and nerve issues.

Hi Lego3, welcome to the forum.

So glad to hear that you've been able to make some positive changes. It usually takes 3 months to show progress so do keep up the good work.

As above, it's usually almond flour that people refer to but it's really about how your body responds to the food you eat so it's useful to test after you've eaten so you can see the impact your meal has.

Do let us know if there's anything we can help you with.

Thank you Lily123.
Ah my friend buys it from America, supposed to be less carbs I believe

Food Products in the UK are not allowed to call themselves Diabetic, it was banned a number of years ago.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Well done on your HbA1c reduction so far. In just 3 weeks that is a good result and with the right dietary changes there is a pretty good chance that you can push it into remission. Have yopu been given any medication for it or the chance to make lifestyle changes first. A brisk daily walk is also really helpful as well as adjusting your diet if you are able.

Coconut flour is also lower carb than wheat flour but not as low as almond flour but may less environmentally damaging than almond production. Are you a keen baker? We have some members who are very inventive when it comes to creating low carb versions of all sorts of cakes and treats.

No meds yet. I have Covid at the moment so need to get over that first!
And my BP is too high, well when you are selling your family home, putting your mum in care, starting a new job, buying a house, burying your mum and catching covid all in 3 months then yeah I think my BP is going to be high.
I'll get there. Just can't wait to go swimming again.

Oh Goodness! I am so sorry for your loss! That is a huge amount of stress to deal with and stress pushes blood glucose (BG) levels up as well as BP. The thing to remember is that diabetes is a marathon not a sprint. In your situation you have done fantastically to achieve what you have, but sometimes you have to cut yourself a little slack and just tread water with your diabetes when life is really tough and then make more of an effort when those life stresses ease a bit.
Good luck with everything you have on your plate! Really hope life becomes easier for you soon.
