Hiya Mark! I’m still getting my head around all this aswell but it is slowly getting easier I say easier in that mentally I am learning how to cope with it! I was diagnosed September this year I’m 38 and my hba1c was 89 scarily high! I’ve been large all my life but this was the shock that got my backside in gear I’m 38 5ft7 and was a size 22/24 i cut out all the c**p and followed a 800cal plan of my own devising as I couldn’t cope with the liquid low cal diet I did and still do a combination of hairy bikers diet recipes all of which have been lush! Some recipes from the blood sugar diet book by Michael mosely and some recipes from this website! I stick to 800 calories a day and made sure I share low carb (120g or lower per day) I also cut out all rice, bread, and potatoes and try to only
Have one measured portion of pasta or noodles per week! In 11 weeks I lost 3 stone and my hba1c at the end of November was 45. Since then I’ve lost another 11lb and I’m down to a dress size 14. I’m hoping to get it down further still to normal levels. The most important thing for me was that I had and still have the total support of my husband which has seen me through the dark days I’ve had and I have an excellent relationship with my gp and my diabetic nurse (who is an old family friend she is also a type 2 diabetic which I find hugely reassuring) and on her advice when I’m struggling as well as seeing her I email professor Taylor at Newcastle university and he has been amazing with me granted it can take up to a week for him to reply but he is a very busy man. The greater your support network the easier you may well find the changes that you need to make. Also forgot to say I wasn’t put on any meds at diagnosis Michelle said right Sarah let’s see what you can do so I literally ran with it. After my second result came back the gp phoned me to tell me I wasn’t being put on anything as at diagnosis all my other stats were good, blood pressure spot on, cholesterol etc and obviously still are so he said my risk or other complications is low so no meds needed now. My aim is to push this back as far down the road as I possibly can. Hope this helps

Sounds like you have completely turned it around, excellent results!

Brilliant - well done!

I wouldn't be in the slightest surprised if you didn't turn out to be Type 1, not Type 2 at all.

Thanks Drummer,
What was your starting number for the 3 month test and how long did it take you to get down to desired range?
How long after did you get off metformin?
Apologies for the barrage of questions this is all a bit of a shock
Hba1c was 91 at diagnosis - glucose at 17.1mmol/l
I managed about 5 weeks taking Atorvastatin and Metformin, but it made me so ill I threw them away.
At 80 days Hba1c was 47 and at 6 months 41.

Looks like you were correct.
I'm glad to hear that you got the right diagnosis eventually and I hope you're coping ok.
Ask on the forums if you need any help. I'm T2, so probably not much help, but there's a wealth of knowledge here.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Thanks although I’m hoping it’s the wrong diagnosis.
Pretty stressed, struggling to accept as very new
I’ve done another post re Lada advice in general.
Mark
