Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Type 2 and unstable for most of that time. I'm naturally resistant to exercise because of painful joints and back and the daily 'thinking about food' sends me slightly crazy so I fall off the wagon fairly regularly. I eat a fairly good diet generally, preparing my own foods but I am easily sabotaged. Every medication other than Metformin has caused disastrous and anti social digestive problems. I now have a digestive system which is simply not working properly...gastric retention and then the absolute opposite....which is making me feel quite unwell on a regular basis. I realise this is probably neuropathic since I've had diabetes for 10 years although I have no evidence of neuropathy in feet and hand. Wondering if anyone else is in the same situation and if they have found any ways of dealing with the digestive issues. Thanks in advance xx

The first thing I’d say @Quokkagirl is speak to your GP to rule out non-diabetic causes. It’s easy to assume everything is related to the diabetes but sometimes other things can be involved. Definitely one for a doctor.

I hope you get it sorted.

Welcome to the forum @Quokkagirl

Sorry to hear of the tough time you have had managing your diabetes over the years.

It does sound like it would be helpful to get the causes of your digestive problems investigated to see of there are any meds, or dietary approaches which might help.

Nerve damage from diabetes can cause delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis) and various other problems with delay or acceleration to gut transit, overall generally grouped under autonomic neuropathy.

But as @Inka says, there are other possible causes to the difficulties you are experiencing, so getting an accurate diagnosis would be a really helpful first step.

Thank you. And thank you for your comments. Sorry I haven't responded before...I couldn't find my way back in. Newbies!!! Still being investigated (very slowly) but gastric trouble persists.

Sorry to hear you’re still having problems and haven’t got an answer yet @Quokkagirl

Hope you get some answers soon @Quokkagirl

Glad you found your way back into the forum eventually!
