Small painless lancing device

Now I know the answer to favourite lancing device is always the accuchek fastclix, and I agree it’s the best, but I have a problem. The lancing device that came with my new meter is painful. The fastclix is slightly too long and difficult to zip into the case. Are there any good ones that are slightly smaller? Ideally long and thin just not quite as long.

I have a Microlet Next which is short and works fine for me but then I don't really understand how people have a problem with lancing devices in general or why they want to spend extra money on the Fastclix because all the ordinary ones I have used have been fine for me. It may just be that I have the skin of a rhino on my hands though so might not be the best person to take a recommendation from. 🙄

I don’t think I have the rhino skin I use fastclix on setting 0.5 without ever changing the lancet much and I still bleed too much

I scrapped my meter case years ago and just carry the meter, fastclix lancet and test strips in a pocket in my handbag.

I leave it on 5, prick the sides of my finger tips and it feels okay - do sometimes misjudge and get more of the padded tip and feel it a bit more then - but this one comes with an attachment you can add that allows you to use it elsewhere on your body, but I haven't been brave enough to try that!!!

Yeah I keep the needles in there too, the case fits neatly in a pocket so it’s easier to keep in case than having all the seperate bits in a pocket and losing bits when fishing around for something else.

I use the cheap and cheerful pricker that came with my Tee2 reader (I use the Libre reader with Optium Strips on prescription now). Usually on setting one. I think I changed the lancet around April and it's still virtually painless using the side of my fingers. I always use strips during hypos, particularly immediately after a corrective JB run. It's the fingers, not the device. You are about to inflict injury on your person to get it to bleed. Making it pain free is impossible.

May I ask how old your fastclix is? My first was like that but the newer ones are shorter, mines isnt in a case just now as it went in the wash but it was in the accu chek Aviva expert case with room at either end, might just be worth buying the newer shorter version

Oh that’s interesting! No idea how old it is but at least several years old, yours does look different to mine with the writing in a different place etc. Thanks for that.

Yeah the one I got with the Expert was exactly like yours but the mechanism for turning the drum went and the replacement they sent was the shorter version I uploaded, I also purchased one this year so I had a spare should anything happen to mine, they are just slightly longer than the space bar on a keyboard xx

When I was at work and we ran lab classes where students had to get a blood sample, we used the accuchek devices but in the hands of inexperienced students they were a nightmare as they often didn't load the lancet properly or pressed the wrong button so the lancet was 'ejected' into their finger. For safety reasons we then went to using one shot disposable devices which were much better.
I personally use the MyLife lancets which I just hold and give a quick jab, gives no problem getting my drop of blood out.
There again I was well known for being able to get 0.5 ml blood from a finger prick (100x more than normally needed for applying to the test strip)

Well @Kaylz wins the award for best fastclix knowledge! After a rummage through the random spare diabetes bits box I discovered the other fastclix lancer and as promised it’s smaller and about the length of a space bar! Fits in the case perfectly.

Their website says it's 119mm by 19mm, which seems to match what mine measures. I guess they used to be bigger.

I think i've been using one of the ancient relics from when they were longer! Didnt even realise they'd made shorter ones.

The one sold on this web site (GlucoRX) is 120mm long. Just measured in the dark with an old tape measure. So it could have been 119mm.
