Not sure if everyone is aware of these - might be handy - they’re available in most supermarkets

A carb free wrap is a thin omelette

We tried the sweet potato ones and I'm afraid they were vile. Definitely not worth the carbs.

Oh no @Leadinglights dont say that - I haven’t tried these yet - hopefully they will be better than the sweet potato ones - otherwise my OH will inherit them 😉🙂

Where did you buys these please? I'd love to try them as i love wraps but unfortunately can't tolerate them.

hi @Sugarcoated - we got these in Sainsbury’s - they aren’t beside the other wraps but beside the gluten free items/‘health’ section if you know what I mean

Make the mix for chaffles and then cook them like oatcakes in a heavy frying pan.
Just about zero carbs per wrap.

thanks @Drummer - Chaffles? Never heard of them but suspect I am missing out

cheese waffles - I bought a waffle maker to do them. I buy the extra thick cut bacon to put into them.
Blending together an egg and some cheese - I use sliced up 'blobs' of mozzarella, but any cheese will do, and then add a small amount of psyllium flour, or ground almonds, or coconut flour - just to hold it together. They can be made savoury or sweet, eaten hot or cold.

Ooooo sounds lovely @Drummer - I will them a try for sure. Thanks so much for the recipe

I might even like the taste/texture of the chickpea ones so maybe worth a try if they sell em in Tesco. Yes being T1 I could eat normal wheat flour ones but the odd few I've tasted on buffets etc were disgustingly floury and gave me the mouth feel of a completely tasteless, raw, wet flannel, quite frankly, so I picked the filling out and ate that and left the wraps. Just Yuk. (ie same as Staffordshire oatcakes - an absolute delicacy in Stoke on Trent etc, but not so from further south west in Staffs!) Anyway so 4g carb is a lot cheaper (in carbs) than a slice of bread or a roll.

Hence @Hepato-pancreato - if you have purchased a packet of same, could you please advise us on here how they are eating-wise?

@trophywench - totally understand what you mean. I had one of these wraps last night and thought it was great - felt like a real ‘treat’ but can be an everyday thing at just 4g

I tried the befree ones and they tasted like porridge. Not good with Mexican food :(

@Molly M will have to give these a try, thanks for the heads up x

I have never seen the attraction of eating wraps instead of rolls or sandwiches - encountered them at examiners' meetings buffet lunches in the past. Never eaten soggy cardboard, but I imagine it would have a similar taste and texture! So no need for me to find a swap!

I enjoy eating wraps and, like @Bruce Stephens mentioned, I get more filling for my buck (before I had diabetes, I used to hollow out rolls to get more filling in) but I find they vary greatly. An international supermarket has just opened in town and they sell tortillas from the Istanbul bakery which are really lovely. I also find the corn tortillas have a different flavour. They sometimes sell some really thin but huge wraps from, I think, Ukraine. I forget their name but they were great.
My advice to anyone who thinks that wraps taste like soggy cardboards is not to be put off by one bad wrap. Make them fresh so they are not soggy and try another type of wrap.
They are also pretty good toasted in a sandwich maker ... just avoid the lettuce as that is rarely good when heated.

We only had a part pack of readymades about 6 months back so I was looking in Madhur Jaffrey for a chapatti recipe, but lo and behold there was a tortilla recipe.

Having made fresh ones I agree they are quite different to the ready made ones. Much nicer (but more work). 🙂
