Feeling a bit fed up. I get bouts of IBS and the GP pointed me towards FODMAP.
My usual breakfast is overnight oats with berries, and at this time of the year I am busy picking blackberries when I walk the dog
Seems blackberries are on the FODMAP red list, and are therefore contributing to my symptoms
Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are ok.
So confusing

I think some of these things can vary again bit like effects on blood sugar levels.
 
Cranberries might be ok, but IBS can make it a bit tricky, everyone seems to be different.

You are brave. I got put off FODMAP by the sheer complexity of it! Hope you manage to find some relief with it though.
(Surely the only difference between a blackberry and a raspberry is their colour - unless it’s what makes the colour that makes it a FODMAP)?

"The main FODMAPs present in fruit are sorbitol and excess fructose. Fruits particularly high in excess fructose include apples, pears, mangoes, cherries, figs, nashi pears, pears, watermelon and dried fruit.

Fruits particularly rich in sorbitol include apples, blackberries, nashi pears, peaches and plums. Many fruits contain both fructose and sorbitol, for example, apples, pears and cherries."

It is all getting beyond me, finding it hard to follow
 
Must admit I haven't tried them, will look our for them next time I go shopping
They do appear to be OK on the FODMAP listing but they are hellish sour, and quite acidic. There doesn't seem to be much of an explanation of why blackberries are on the high list whereas the other berries are on the low list.
 
I feel that it is true that all berries are not the same in the same way that all Type2 diabetics are not the same.
Some of us can't tolerate the carbs in fully ripened Blueberries where others can even manage grapes without problems!

That's the other thing about Fructose (and glucose) in fruit - the riper the fruit is the more of the sugars it contains.

The only way to know what you personally can or can't tolerate is to test it for yourself.
