DSNs - how often do you contact them?

@mum2westiesGill You say you’ve been doing this “just lately” - how were things before? Has anything changed? Are you under stress unrelated to your diabetes? If you managed ok before, you can manage by yourself again 🙂
Re "just lately" I've never done this with any other diabetic nurses I've had. Like you say if I've managed before then I CAN manage again.

Perhaps it’s just that you’ve got into a cycle of emailing, getting a reply, then asking questions about that reply, getting an ambiguous answer, so replying with more questions, etc?

If so, you’d have to actively break the ‘reply’ cycle. You could even do this by emailing the DSN and thanking them for their help but say you’re now planning to manage yourself for the next month (or whatever).

Morning Gill

Early after diagnosis I was contacting the DSN weekly, then monthly then 6 monthly, and I have stuck with that frequency, but knowing that Incan email if I need to.

As @Pattidevans said it is worth revisiting the Libre training videos. I know I find that different things stick when I watch things again, and I am surprised that I had not picked it up before. The Libre can be like having your own DSN in your arm, and the patterns shown can be helpful when read alongside a log of what you have eaten and the amount of carbs. I found it useful to stick to reviewing my data just once a fortnight, and using these to help me decide if I needed to make changes to my ratios. I then used the Libre info day to day to head off hypos and hypers.
Any changes you make need time to settle in and a planned review helped me to avoid micromanaging my levels. Could that approach help you? Having said all that I know that when you first tried the Libre it increased your anxiety so you would need to balance the information it gives you and how you use it.

I have read some of your posts where you have made decisions about changes. Perhaps discuss a planned reduction in contact with your DSN, and work with them to develop more independence. It has also been great to read where you have had the confidence to support others with advice.
You can do this Gill.

Surprised you got replies to email that quick to be honest. I’ve emailed and phoned when I’ve needed to but always taken a few days for a reply.
