Hi 🙂

Have had some good blood results today.
Originally my bloods were out of sink and totally bizarre but after strong medication and determination of diet changes, I have gone from 58 in cholesterol levels to 2.6!! Amazing! And blood sugars HBA1c was 82 now.... 67! 🙂 So thrilled with my results.
I have been on 1500 metaformine for blood sugars a day and 80mg of statins a day for around 2 months... It's so worked!
My triglycides level should be below 1.7mmol/L and it's currently at 2.1mmol/L so I know I still have some work to do to lower my HBA1c and Triglycerides but it's so going in the right direction...

Congratulations, for the cholesterol are you taking medication for that? 2.6 is getting quite low so it may be you can review the medication dose if so. Our bodies do need enough cholesterol just not too much either!

Hi Lycyr,

Yes, I'm currently on 80mg statins for cholesterol... I think the highest dose to get my levels down, quick! Which it definitely has done... But I do agree, think now it's leveled out a bit, maybe drop my dose for that.

My HDL cholesterol ( which is the good cholesterol ) has always been lower, it's currently at 1.0

Yet my bad cholesterol is 2.1 when should be no more than 1.7

Hoping within no time, it'll be spot on... 🙂

The recommendation for Total Cholesterol in diabetics is it to be under 4 with good ratios. 4 is the tipping point in diabetics at which cardio vascular disease ( cvd) accelerates. 2.6 is a good level and your statin is an insurance policy against the cvd that carries off 85% of diabetics.

Thank you, that's interesting actually... Never knew this

Does anybody know if statins improve the HDL/LDL ratios or just reduce the total cholesterol?

Statins reduce LDL so ratios improve inter alia ?
Thanks, that makes sense. So would explain the reason for keeping somebody on a high dose of statin even if their total cholesterol is low but the LDL is high compared to HDL.
