as an indian man, what food can i eat, i dont know how to cook, i have tried my best through youtube, didnt work. i am on tablets medication, i miss eating cakes from greggs and other cake shops. i am always looking at ingredients on packets of food to find if they contain sugar and if they contain which i cannot buy, it is depressing to do this always in the supermarket. how can i get the diabetes to go down. i am walking all day everyday when i am out and when i am at work. i see people going to shops like CakeBox which all their cakes contain sugar and people buying all these slices of cake or a big box of a cake and dont they have diabetes????

Welcome to the site. Diagnosis does come as a bit of a shock but if you say a bit about how you were diagnosed and what your HbA1C is then people can make appropriate suggestions to help you to make some changes that will be necessary to your diet. Unfortunately cakes are going to be off the menu as they are one of the worst things you can eat being very high in carbohydrate which is what you will need to reduce in your meals. Things like rice, potatoes and bread are also things you will need to be careful of. Things like meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy and non starchy vegetables are all things you can have. A lot of pre prepared meals have high carb content because of the added ingredients rather than the basic meat or vegetables.
If you give an idea of what you currently have for meals then people can suggest some alternatives which would be lower carbohydrate. You may have to learn to cook.
My son in law from Pakistan had never cooked before in his life but now cooks most of the time and makes some fabulous meals if a little spicy sometimes.

monesh - I apologise if I'm saying the 'wrong' thing here - I know that a good many of the mosques and other such establishments in the surrounding area really help both their religious congregation and also other people, with practical things like cooking familiar food - is that a thing you might be able to investigate in your area? Or in fact have you asked at your own GP surgery if they know where you could get help with this locally? I'm 100% sure you are not the only single chap hailing from that part of the world with diabetes, what do they all do?
