I eat unsalted peanuts every night, are these likely to make my sugar readings spike

People often regard nut as a good snack. peanuts have 2g carb for 30g nuts. Perhaps slightly higher in fat than some other type of nuts. If you are unsure then you can always test to check.

My understanding is that carbohydrates cause diabetics problems.

100g of peanuts contain 16.1g of carbs. You might be alright with that but BG testing would tell you.

I guess a lot depends on how many peanuts you eat each evening and what the diet has been like the rest of the day.

Everyone is different so only you will know (or will find out) if the peanuts are giving you any problems.

As for me they give me no problems at all, but then I only eat a few occasionally.

Does that help at all?

Hhmmm now that's interesting my reference seens to state higher carbs for peanuts. I Need to check.

Thank you, do you happen to know how many carbs per day is a safe limit

Just double checked. It says 16.1g carbohydrates per 100g of peanuts.

Oh dear, it is different for everyone. What seems to be considered as a low carbohydrate diet is less than 125g carbs per day (I think).

However, i must stress that every person will be able to tolerate different amounts of carbs. Diabetes seems to be a journey of self discovery.

Today I have eaten 118.8 g carbs which is fine. And no peanuts.

The NHS has guidelines on how many carbs someone not diabetic should consume. Not much help really.

Just as a bit of illustration today I have consumed...

Breakfast cerial, milk, 1/2 banana 22.9g carbs
Morning snack nectarine, pear 19g carbs
Lunch 1/2 prawn salad 9.5g carbs
Afternoon snack 1 M&S eclair (treat) 20.2g carbs
Tea chicken breast, green beans 5.7g carbs ( plus a trial of zero carb protein powder)
Evening snack raspberries 17.9g carbs
Night meal strawberries, 100g red wine 17.6g carbs

All in all: calories 1249.9 KCal (special diet adjustment)
Carbohydrates 118.8g
Protein 83.3g
Fibre 33.6g
Sat fats 15.6g
Salt 3.63g
Cholesterol 200.3mg

Peanuts are one of the highest carb nuts so choosing an alternative like walnuts or hazelnuts or Brazils would be better and keeping a close eye on portion size as it is easy to just have a few more and a few more until half the packet is gone.... I know I have this problem! Best to allocate a small portion and put the bag with the rest in well out of the way.

Just majorly updated my reply above. Hope it helps

Apologies if this was misleading but my Carbs and Cals book says 1g carb for 10g nuts but 2 g carb for 30g nuts so confusing there but looking up on internet does give various values one of which is as Gwynn says 16g carb per 100g nuts so way different.

A thing with peanuts is that they are much higher in saturated fat than most other nuts. That can be an issue if you're watching your LDL cholesterol. I was eating peanuts to fill a protein gap in my plant based diet, but that was a duymb move - it had
