Type 2 here and sometimes the after meal finger test results show a drop of 1-2 mmol i wondering if anyone can shed light on why this might happen.
I eat the same things for breakfast/ lunch everyday, just change it up for tea and it seems it can happen regardless of what it is or even which meal very strange and curious.

So how long after the first mouthful is the 'after' test?

There may be other factors at work such as the amount of exercise/activity you did that day or even the day before and the duration and type of that exercise. That can have an impact on levels up to 48 hours later. Also if you are perhaps starting to lose fat from around your liver and pancreas, they might be starting to "talk to each other" a little better and the message to produce insulin or stop is getting better. Alternatively, if these drops are happening after higher carb meals then it may be the pancreas producing a bit too much insulin... What sort of levels are you dropping to and what medication, if any, are you on as that may be playing a part?

Only 6 weeks after diagnosis and on 3×500 metformin a day normal(for me) is 7 ish pre meal and them 8/9 after but occasionally it drops to 5ish(after) as my excersice is the same everyday its just wierd.

Not at all weird, or perhaps a weird which many share.
When you begin to return to normal you still have a poor hysterical pancreas liable to throw out insulin when alarmed - it has most likely been struggling and over producing to deal with high blood glucose levels.
Eating might still trigger an over production, just not so frequently as before.
By eating a low carb diet you should restore normality in a matter of months, but it isn't something mechanical - biological systems are like a highly complicated juggling act with things going every which way apparently at random

Could be as I was nearly hyper when diagnosed (hba 143) and as of 2 weeks ago 120 so the drop(hba) and the change of diet all sending things for a loop.

My BG drops often after I have eaten and I go with this as long as not too low I have not worried. So good to read thanks for sharing folks
