I will probably be having prawn fried rice & will look at the carbs & cals app then weigh it outScreenshot_20210401-181129_Carbs & Cals.jpgScreenshot_20210401-181137_Carbs & Cals.jpg

So (57g + 18g +18g) so 93g of carbs altogether eeeek

I will test first then depending on what bg is my meter will tell me how much I need to inject & wether I need a correction
I'm on a 1:10 ratio

Where are the 18g coming from? What are you having with it? I tend to ‘eyeball’ Chinese as it can vary a bit.

Hi @Inka the 18g is in one of the photos - one of the photos is 57g of carbs & the other is 18g but I will have 2 of the 18g portions

I tend to find I need more insulin with meals once they get larger like that. So I’m another who finds estimate and add a bit (but deliver the insulin over a longer period in 2 doses).

Enjoy your meal, and don’t expect perfection 🙂

It’s not like this is something you’ll have very often 🙂

Right - I don’t use that app so didn’t know you had to add different weights like that. I assumed you could click to get to the weight of rice and just get one total amount.

Enjoy your food anyway!

So I've tested & bg is 5.7 then entered the carbs amount of 98g because I'll have a few prawn crackers - my insulin is 10.0 units & I've added 1.0 unit on - I'm going to do half of the insulin before I start eating then the other half a little way into eating

Whoops I'm sure I'm eating way more carbs than I intended!

We're getting Chinese takeaway tomorrow night, don't bother weighing food as usually get same dish so know from experience how to bolus for it, fave takeaway after fish & chips.

Hope it goes well @mum2westiesGill

It’s always a bit of guesswork, and hey - if it doesn’t work out this time, it’s a good excuse for another experiment soon 😛

Thank you so much! I've just done my last 4u of insulin but still chomping away

When is best to test again?

It’s tricky because big meals can take a long time to get going.

I would certainly check in a couple of hours (which might be before bedtime), and possibly again overnight in case there is either a dip or a rise?

Thank you I will & I will post my bg level

19:40pm 5.7 before eating - injected 6u
20:33pm injected rest of insulin 4u
22:02pm 4.2 & still got 4.14 units of insulin on board - mysugr has advised to eat extra carbs to reach my target blood sugar

Every day a school day as they say, so next time you know not to have as much as 4u at 8.30.

How did it go overnight @mum2westiesGill ?

I often get a delayed rise with those bigger meals.

Hi @mum2westiesGill

I am another one who finds that I need a bit more insulin if I have a bigger meal.
Add in the ‘take away’ factor and it is all a bit of an experiment.

I hope you enjoyed your meal, and certainly it sounds like an experiment that needs to be repeated.

Ps. Do you have half unit pens? They were great for adjustments when on small doses.

I only have a takeaway maybe once every few months as a treat.

It will be a little carb heavy but I get the same thing so I’ve mastered the insulin and the effects of the carbs and can manage it well.
