Ahhhh (me screaming), I received a call to make my annual diabetes review. So I did so...Today the agreed date the DN rang me and told me she didn't know why she had to ring me. I explained the call I had received, a bit of shuffling as she called up my records. Oh, your numbers are all good, are you diabetic? Well, I was told I was. Oh, this farce continued I think we should take you off Metformin. Fine by me, however because that surgery makes me so nervous I asked for a blood test before removing the Metformin. Thankfully she agreed. I am now going to lay down in a darkened room for the rest of the day.

i don't get how she can try and take you off metformin without doing bloods then don't they have to do them so many times without meds before thinking you are even in remission?

Weird is right! I know from your figures that you've been less than pre-diabetic for over 2 years, but I would have thought a last test wouldn't have gone amiss before taking you off the metformin altogether. My DN wants me to stay on 1 a day for another few months at least, because although my hba1c is good (same as yours!) apparently metformin also protects the heart and kidneys.

This reminds me of my surgery .. had a nurse call me and say your hba1c is very good for a type 2 ... had to point out I was type 1 . Then another call after an hba1c test I was told I didn’t need to worry I was no longer diabetic... that was the receptionist. I try and avoid the surgery as much as I can

my worry with stuff like this is what happens when you are taken off medications do your BG levels start to rise over a period of time and with no blood tests then there is no way of knowing what is then going on. you could be pre-diabetic while on medication but then once it is stopped who is to say that you are back to diabetic levels again

OMG I can't stand it. No wonder I refuse to have my BP taken in the surgery. I take it at home. I just don't understand how it works.

I simply don't have a clue. I decided to keep on testing myself, have the annual tests and then work thing out. It is easier.

All of which sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Exactly my concern. I would rather keep on the metformin, and have all the annual checks and told her that. She wasn't too resistant but I do wonder what the Diabetes Dr might say. It is so confusing.

I sort of decided that if after the blood test and the result is still ok, I will count to a hundred and then negotiate metformin dosage.

when i got my phone call for a diabetic review i didn't catch what she told me at first and simply asked why the DN couldn't do the bloods and urine sample as i am under their care until she mentioned it was for diabetes.

my DN cover a lot of things but one of them is not diabetes checks and i am glad they don't as i feel it is more of a specialist thing to me.

think i am lucky that our practice have diabetic nurses some are okay and then there are the odd ones like been told you are on metformin no need to monitor your BG eh! i am not on that now as it gave me a bad reaction.

I have not had any contact from the GPs at the surgery except to phone up on what is obviously a list with a script to follow and try to get me back on statins.
Not one word about diabetes, except to say that they like diabetics to be under five - I resist asking if that is feet or meters, but with some difficulty.

Hope the appointment and conversation goes well @Sharron1

Maybe you could have a few years off the Metformin, and go back on it if your BG starts creeping up again? An occasional (every few months) waking BG with a meter might give you enough of a clue since you’ve already been diagnosed once?
