Around 1545 I tested as I was feeling unusually tired . 3.6 , had 4 glucose tabs and set timer for 15 mins .
1600, 3.5 oh joy , another 4 glucose and reset timer.
1615, 3.5 yawn a 150 can I’d full fat coke .
1634, 2.9 oh sugar , 5 orrible glucose tabs and a bug swig if apple juice , reset timer . I now feel Tom n dick on top of hypo’s signs , yuk .
Next test was 3.1 , at least I’m going in the right direction now, 5 glucose tabs , feel really sick now .
It carried on in this fashion till I reached the dizzy heights of 4.2 at 17 45.

Once my tum had stopped complaining about all that sweet stuff being shoved into it I stared to feel hungry, had some chips, cod roe and some coleslaw, for safety sake I decided not to bolus till after I had eaten .
Half hour after I’d finished eating , I tested .
4.2 grrrrr , I will find out later if my decision not to bolus is right.

I am fine now , I wonder what dizzy height I will reach

....... and then you'll minutely scrutinise everything you know or can think of that might have happened in the previous 2 or 3 days (ish) and still won't know why.,,,,,,,,

It's that time of year when not only the elephant flits from bough to bough - what else do we all know, that has wings, visits PWD, and doesn't look like any other dicky bird? (pink face, blue and white hooped legs.....

Have you or a neighbour got a rhubarb tree?

Yup, we’ve had days like that. Remember one where daughter spent most of the school day in the medical room, I told her to put a temp basal on but she didn’t read the message for ages and then decided she didn’t know how to do it so by the time I’d explained it was nearly the end of the school day. I had a function on at my school and the plan had been for her to walk home from the bus and wait for me there, not letting her walk home alone when she’s been low all day though so disappeared from my function for a short while to fetch her from school and then brought her with me so I could keep an eye on her. Was 4.6 when we got there, at the function she found a bag of sweets and a huge piece of cake and took no insulin which would normally launch her into the stratosphere but just about got her up to 6.0. She was also sick of having sweet stuff shoved down her throat all day and suddenly decided she fancied some chips for tea so we called at the chippy on the way home, all she ate though was most of a non-battered sausage and about 6 chips and then she was full up. Kept a close eye on her all night and she was just about OK, put 70% temp basal on the next morning to try to avoid a repeat, spent ages worrying that that might not have been low enough and then found out that by 10am she’d gone high and had to set it back to normal! And we have absolutely no idea what was going on that day!

Oh heck that must have been so worrying for you.

So frustrating for you @Ljc ! I hate those occasions when you have to stuff in sweet thing after sweet thing. It really is nauseating. Of course, when you actually have delicious sweet things you’re dying to eat, you’ll find your blood sugar stays stubbornly high 🙄

I hope everything is more settled now.

(((hugs)))

If only every other single bit of our bodies were so easy to keep track of, as our serum glucose! Hello, sexual bits (and growth mechanisms)please tell us when you've put your oar in!

Oh Jenny I love your sense of humour, it make me smile when I am going through hard times with dad and real belly laughs when all is well here.
Thank you.

Well I think I’ve found the problem. It looks like my Basal may need to go down.
As I asnt hungrynat breakfast or lunch I didn’t eat so did a bit of Basal testing
By dinner time 5ish I was 4.2 again , this was down from 7.0 on waking , so to play safe I enjoyed a bolus free high carb meal of meat pie, some crispy sliced spuds and some stuffing , sorry no veg as I didn’t fancy any, , well I am sitting at 4.3 now
It’s amazing how rapidly things can change diabetes wise.

I am finding I am going low (not really bad hypo like yours though) about the same time 5-6pm after battling highs most of the day and having to inject a lot of extra Levemir on a morning. My basal needs profile has changed quite dramatically recently and I am struggling to get it figured out. Hope I don't have a whopper hypo like yours anytime soon. That would really scare the pants of me. Hope you find your BG balance again soon.

Like panicking ever solved anything. Why bother doing that?

I had 3 weeks of it to greet the new year, not the first time and won't be the last. Just shrug your shoulders and get on with it, same as I've been doing for nearly 50 years just like Pumper_Sue and AJ Barrie, etc.

Yes Jenny is right , we just have to get on and deal with it, no it’s not nice and the first time you have a real doozer of a one it is scary.
So @rebrascora if you do have a Nasty one , try not to panic as it sure doesn’t help, quite the opposite in fact . Take your glucose set a timer for 15 mins test , treat and repeat as necessary .

Ugh! Those are horrid @Ljc - and very frustrating.

Though sometimes there’s a glimpse of being non-D about them with being able to keep eating sweet stuff and not seeing much BG impact at all. Always that nagging feeling that you might sky-rocket at any moment though 🙄

Glad you were able to battle your way through it, and didn’t get the double whammy of either a huge rebound or a second crash.
