Hello,

If I purchase the Freestyle Libre sensor only and use a later mobile phone (apple or android) which has nfc, will it work? Anyhing to watch out for?

Is there any other costs other than to purchase the sensor every fortnight? Is there a discount applicable for bulk purchase?

I am type 2 and non-insulin dependant and this may not sound right for me, but am planning ahead and don't want to use BG test strips if I am exercising/out and about/eating or at work etc.

Thanks

It depends on the phone, if you search through google you should be able to find a list of compatible phones

The Libre system is a FlashGM not a CGM

No the only cost is the sensor and no there is not a discount for bulk purchases, you are only allowed to order 7 at a time anyway from them directly

They don't always "work" for a person and it doesn't eliminate the need for finger pricks, especially during exercise as BG can change quickly during that and the sensor lags 15 minutes behind blood and also sometimes doesn't give readings if your glucose level is changing rapidly xx

There’s a list of phone requirements on their site you can check, no discount for bulk sensor purchases that I’ve found, searched recently hoping for some kind of subscribe and save option but seemed it’s just pay for a sensor each time. They did have a one sensor free trial option recently.

Here’s the free trial

The requirement for your phone is NFC.
Not all new phones include this feature: none of the Motorola phones do.

If you chose to go ahead with Libre, do some research regarding the limitations (they are frequently mentioned). Otherwise you will be disappointed and add to the plethora of comments about inaccuracy.

Cheers

Yes I will do thanks

There is box to have the VAT reclaimed in the order process from Abbott. It comes off the price you pay.

Something else that might interest you is another libre device, libre sense biosensors, they are designed for athletes in training might be useful for what you want without the full blown diabetes sensor

If you work in IT, you may be interested in pimping your sensor to use Bluetooth and forward to a smart watch.
The Libre 2 can be patched without the need for an add on like a Miaomiao

Apple Watch 5 needs no pimping, libre 2 alarms work fist fine on mine without even trying to connect the app to the watch
