Thanks everyone for all the ideas 🙂 - it has really helped me see how the system works ...and the questions to ask .... As a result I've now got an appointment to spk. to the GP and am trying to get the consultancy appointment moved forward and seeing if can spk to the diabetes nurse - in the hope that the dots can be joined up faster given son is finding things v v difficult .....If he was well I wouldn't bother as I don't want to distract NHS from higher priorities. Not least Libre 2 may only be part of the answer and other matters suggested here may need attention sooner rather than later. x fingers

Thanks you !! 🙂

My Libre 2 sensors arrived in the post this morning. Last week spoke to the Diabetes nurse at my GP surgery and they just got the GP to change the prescription from Libre 1 to 2. No qualms at all. I'm in Berkshire. Applied online at the FreeStyleLibreAbbot site to request a new Libre 2 reader which is on its way. Though I mainly use my phone for scanning the sensor. And will continue to do so, as apparently, the alerts only work on whichever device is scanned first when starting a new sensor?

Disappointing it's still a bit of a post code lottery as to how easy it is to get things.

Well done - as I said - ask not - get not!
When you called Abbott did you have to give them any proof that GP had prescribed ?

No. Though when I originally got the Libre 1 reader and sensor I had set up an account on the https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/ site, so just logged in and there was a button to request a new Libre 2 reader. Just had to type in the serial number of the Libre 1 reader, plus confirm address, etc and that was it.

My DSN has just agreed via email to send a letter over to the GP.

ahh .... ok ..... another avenue to check out ... 🙂.
Thank you .
The Abbott site is the place to go for the new Libre 2 reader but not the sensor - they still need to be prescribed by your GP/diabetes team.

That is not true I ordered 4 last week from the Abbott website. They are also offering a free trail at the moment.

Sorry, I should have been more clear with my post - I meant the Abbott website is not the place to go to get a prescription for sensors changed. If you are self-funded, you can, of course, purchase LIbre 2 sensors form the website,

The letter from the DSN did the trick and I also followed it up with a telephone call to let them know I only needed it adding to the prescription and the Libre 1 sensors removing, I did not need a prescription.

Instead the GP has done part of that but gone and issued 4 Libre 2 sensors and I didn’t know until the pharmacy text to say I had a prescription to collect.

Literally just collected my Libre 1 sensors last week too, so now I have 4x Libre 1 and 4x Libre 2 sensors.

Enough supply for a while anyway.

I landed up getting 8 boxes of test strips, because I'd ordered 4 boxes and then rang docs to ask why the 'repeat prescription' list in the pharmacy bag with all my repeats on it, said 100 strips every 28 days instead of 200? So they issued another scrip for 200 and also changed it to 200. Did I ask for another scrip? Nope I did not. If I drop dead any time soon I'll be remembered in history as yet another old biddy who stockpiled her medications .....
