Hi, I'm Wynter, mum to M who is 14, and newly diagnosed last week. M is autistic, specifically PDA (demand avoidant) profile. She has been doing her own various "needle work" brilliantly, but...carb counting... So thankful for this forum. Xx
Thank you, her team is great, and hopefully we'll get the hang of it all soon 🙂Hi and welcome. I hope you have good support from your team. It’s great that she has been doing her own injections. Carb counting is a lot to get your head around but it will come with time.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it 🙂Welcome @Wynter 🙂 Still very early days for both of you. It does get easier as time goes by, both practically and emotionally.
Hi, thank you so much. I'll definitely get that book. Yes! Biscuits! We need to get our priorities right everything else will hopefully fall into place.Welcome to the forum @Wynter and M.
This is very early days for both of you, and great that M is already managing her own injections.
The carb counting will definitely get easier. We now have a list of the foods we eat regularly, and I am a mine of information on the carb content of many biscuits!! It is amazing how much just becomes second nature.

Type1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas
It is very clearly written and gives info in small chunks. It is written from a practical point of view, and is a useful reference. It is regularly updated with the latest tech, and this is changing fast, so worth looking for the latest edition.
It is very early days and is a lot to take in at the start. It definitely gets easier and just becomes part of your new ‘normal’ life. Any questions that arise, just ask. There is plenty of experience to draw on on the forum. Nothing is considered silly. Just ask.
Thank you - I'm glad too! 🙂
