The diabetes nurse phoned last week to inform me that she’s writing to my GP to change my prescription to the Freestyle Libre 2. However I’m not sure how I can get hold of a reader for Libre 2 and I forgot to ask her.

If you have a Libre 1 reader, Abbott will send you a Libre 2 reader free of charge.
Edit. Grovesey types faster than me!

You just need the serial number of the libre one reader I think when you ring.

FYI when you get it it needs charging a lot more often than a libre 1 and it doesn’t seem to warn when the battery is low it just won’t give reading

Yes that is all you need, apart from own personal info. Had to borrow husband's reading glasses to read the number though!

I applied online with the serial number of my Libre 1 reader.
The new reader arrived less than a week later.

They send it quick, I ordered it and the sensors from them on the same day the Reader came next day, and sensors a few days later.

Sorry i am a bit confused with this libre equipment i am type 2 on metformin and emplgafizion , i have told my gp i cannot use the finger prick machines very well but he said they are only available for type 1 insulin dependent diabetics , can people tell me how much libre is , can you buy it from a chemist and do you need a smartphone to use it , be grateful if people could give mme some information

You can buy it direct from Abbott the company that make it , it is most probably better to go to there site they have videos on the site. If you buy you can tick a box , for them take take the VAT off.

I believe Abbott is offering a 14 day free trial of the Libre 2 for selected people in the UK. You have to register on the site and then they'll contact you to say if you are eligible or not.

Libre isn’t cheap I’m afraid @Anxious 63 . About £48 for a sensor that lasts 2 weeks. You can use a reader rather than a smartphone app.

The information they provide can be extremely helpful, but currently there is deemed to be insufficient clinical evidence for widespread use in T2 on prescription.

Hopefully this may change in the future, but for the time being it looks like T2s will have to continue to self fund.

I received my new scanner last week: I've got another two months of libre 1 to use before I need a new prescription that has been updated for libre 2.
I've been impressed with the first model so I'm rather excited about this new one.
Such a helpful thing to help live a sort of normal life!

Started my last L1 today so hopefully since my clinic wrote to my GP a fortnight ago now, by next week when I put my repeat scrip request in, they'll have updated it to the L2.

Have you got an L2 reader now TW? Abbott will replace your old one if you provide a serial no I think

Yes Mike, or at least I received a box from them last week having ordered a L2 reader online, but deliberately haven't opened it to avoid having any more 'essential bits and pieces' close to my person most of the time!- and having to tidy them up and keep an eye on them all.

This house needs less clutter, not more.
