We had numbers when I did my O levels - 1-9. Anything up to 5 was a pass. Got 1s in both English-es and Biology, 2s in French and Maths, 8s in Physics & German and 9 in Latin. You can see which ones interested me and I liked the teachers of, can't you?
Us too (I think we are of similar vintage). Though the Oxford Board had 1-6 as a pass.

Now I believe they are about to revert to numbers for the next incarnation of O levels, only this time from 9-1. Seems daft to me.

Mine were the Joint Matriculation Board, being as West Bromwich was in Staffordshire at the time.

ISTR Sutton Coldfield and a lot of Brum used Oxford papers. Didn't really matter as long as the school used the matching textbooks really!

Thank you for jogging my memory - I have been trying to remember JMB all evening.
I went to school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. A Technical Grammar School.
