I have sent a diab1 form to DVLA I have not heard back yet but I presume when I do they will want me to send my driving licence for them to put some restrictions on it. My question is will I still be able to tow my caravan, I past by driving test in 1981.

You will lose your Grandfather rights to drive/tow from 3.5 tonne up to 7.5 tonne - the C1 bit of the old licence - unless you specifically wish to keep it, in which case you need to tell them.

I could still tow a caravan with our car or drive our motorhome same as I always could ever since passing my test - I was T1 long before I learned to drive - since I wouldn't exceed the 3500kg limit. (I've never done either before or since, as a matter of fact LOL)

Just more regular stops to test, eat and sleep now - rather than doing Calais to the Costa Brava or Lands End to John o' Groats in one leg!

Shouldn`t be a problem, as TW says depends on what you want to pull.😳:D

Hello KARNAK, just as a matter of interest, is the 3.5T limit just the towcar or the towcar and caravan please? I am T2 on insulin and drive a Kia Sorento weighing 2060kg and tow a Bailey unicorn Cadiz weighing 1498kg total of the two equals 3558kg am I ok with this outfit? Thank you.

No - just the tow car Charlie. Of course the capability of the tow car has an effect on how heavy a trailer you can tow behind it, but that's nowt to do with a C1 and applied anyway when you started using that car to tow.

Our Moho's sitting on the drive getting dirty as we speak ....... hasn't moved since the end of September last year when we SORNed it again - normally we use it throughout the winter as well as the summer ....... bit like your diabetes - who knows what we'll be able to do or when!

Ah, Thank you so much. ok well that’s some good news at any rate, it’s all new to me and the government site doesn’t seem to make it very clear! Thanks again TW

I think you will find the above is incorrect. The 3.5 limit for insulin dependant diabetic restrictions includes both your car and caravan outfit I'm afraid.
