Hi, newbie here again type 2 insulin and metformin. I've just been thinking will I ever be able to have a takeaway again ie Chinese pizza curry or even a kebab? Please don't shout at me I'm new to all of this

You’re on insulin, aren’t you? It depends what insulin you take, if you understand carb counting - and mainly what you choose to eat. If you’re happy to choose carefully and be aware of your portion size, then yes.

Ok, so yes, in theory, you can because you could use your Novorapid to deal with the carbs in your meal. But I think I’d leave that for a little while so that you can get used to how your insulins work and how your body reacts. Eating out and takeaways are a little more nerve-wracking because you’re never quite sure what’s in the food compared to home cooking - ie if they’ve added extra carbs.

Hi @Steverpayne, welcome back!

It's perfectly understandable that you'd wonder these things, I think we all have at some point!

In order to maintain an healthy lifestyle and not feel as though you're suffering, it's worth looking at what you can have and making different but familiar choices.

I know it's not a exactly the same but our theme for the month is Fakeaway and we have some lovely recipes such as fish and chips, kebabs, and curries https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-t...e-with-diabetes/simple-switches/diy-takeaways.

I'm sure once things stabilize, you'll get to understand more about the impact that certain foods have on you and can choose with that in mind.

At our chippy - who also do both chicken and meat ?lamb kebabs - you can have the meat and salad and garlic mayo or chilli sauce (or both) served in a polystyrene tray and a free plastic fork so you can still eat it 'on the hoof' if you want to, rather than in a Pita.
