I have just read a e:mail from Diabetes UK,I feel I am in the category they are speaking about, I am a 67 year old type 1 with a pretty good HBa1c but I have had a heart attack and stroke just over 2 years ago I have been very careful since the start of the pandemic but as my husband is shielding I have found it necesarry to do the shopping etc I am now concerned as what to do. Any advice?

it sounds like you could do with some help coming in. there is social services who might be able to help and also age uk do a package

Try looking for local volunteer groups , My 82 year old mother in law has been getting help from our local group .
I hope this will help you

Hi Cathy,

Sorry to hear about your circumstances. Do have a look at the info on our site re coping whilst shielding as it contains lots of useful info: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/about_us/news/coronavirus#shielding.

It might also be worth contacting our helpline to see if there's any support in your local area. You can speak with someone on 0345 123 2399, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Must be a very anxious time for you @Chatty Cathy

Well done for your careful approach so far.

Hopefully there will be a ‘covid-19 community response’ group running in your area which might help?

Have a look at the website for your local council. They’ll have a COVID page on there with lots of info about getting help if you’re shielding.
Apart from calling DUK of course there’s also British Red Cross who have a free helpline for any COVID related conferences and they can signpost you to appropriate resources if they can’t help you directly.
