Hello,

I have been struggling with my Diabetes control.. very rare to see my BG less than 15 after the lunchtime meal. The culprit is the excessive carbs I was having.

However, from the fantastic advice on this forum, I understand carbs and cutback, I have only just started but the reads are great..

They were 4.5 last night, so I had to have 1slice of Burgen toast with peanut butter before going to bed. This morning my read was 5.3, then 7.4, 2 hours after breakfast and crucially 7.4 two hours after lunchtime.

For breakfast, I am eating 1 slice of Burgen Bread and a boiled egg with tea and milk.

At lunchtime, I replaced my usual chapati with two slices of Burgen Bread with my cauliflower curry.

I will be having an apple as a snack soon and for my Tea I will be having grilled salmon with salad.

I know I have to do this for the long run, so looking at carb replacements, but I am not going to limit myself to a very strict carb like 60 carbs a day, that won't work for me in the long run.

My goal is to reduce my HbA1c from 102 to below 80 n 3 months time (that will be a first for me).

After this goal I will continue to reduce the HbA1c and ideally on long term reduce the Glicizide intake.

A big thank you to everyone who has kindly been helping with good sound advice.

Thank you very much.

Yes will do

You're doing really well @Newbie777, and no need to worry about going v low carb. Some of us (me included) finds it works for us but as you say, it's a long term thing and you have to be able to sustain it.

Cauliflower curry and chapati....I am drooling at the thought! Very well done for substituting the chapati, that takes a lot of will power and you should be very proud of yourself :D

Thank you very much you are so kind.

It is very early days but am glad it is working.

i didnt know how carb heavy chapati was, ours is about 10 inch and a thick, so possibly 150g carbs plus.

Also am getting used to the Burgen bread and do enjoy it with peanut butter.

I seriously think now that my medicine is over subsctibed as I hit 4.5 just before going to bed at 9.00pm and the last Glicizide was taken at 12.00pm and metformin at 6.00pm with food, So need to be careful don't go hypo.

Best regards
Niaz

Thank you

I wish I had done it earlier, but am on track now.

Firstly well done for getting the results you have, as far as carbs go I have found about 100g per day gives me the flexibility to eat very well without feeling deprived in fact I look forward to making my dinner after work its so nice to eat fresh food. Exercise has made a big impact on my BG readings and I'm not going mad just taking my time although I have just finished a 40min jog on the treadmill and I was actually steaming :D should have put my broccoli on my head to run and cook at the same time.

Well done you.

Hello and thank you very much for the kind comments and well one to you too.

i have an issue with exercise, I have a treadmill at home, but due to my recent eye surgery am not allowed to walk or jog etc.
The issue is my BG just before I go to bed around 9.00pm, it is low, around 4.5 so dropped from the read of 7.4 after meal at 6.00pm.

i dont want to experience hyp so I have a snack and my read is around 5.1 in the morning.

So when I do exercise it is a case of reducing medicine or increasing carb intake, on the basis of buring carbs during exercise.

Catch 22, so may need to speak to Gp as priority is to reduce hbA1c reads from 102

Yes it's just a case of getting the balance right isn't and that will be different for us all.

Hello,

A quick update..

It's been a few days since I have not been taking the 2 Glicizide tablets.

So far my reads are higher than before, like 6.7 (or lower) for fasting, or 7.9 (or lower) two hours after food, so am ok with this and also importantly no big BG drop at night.

I will see how I get on as need to keep this up for longer. Also, I have dropped my carbs from around 120g per day to about 80g.

So far am good, a bit of constipation so more will drink more water, eat an apple, and am now eating 1 Weetabix with almond milk for brekkie.

The only other change I am thinking of is taking my Tea at 5.00pm rather than 6.00pm, giving the Metformin more time to stabilise, but that also means checking BG around 7.00pm if on the low side 5.0 or below) taking a snack and then checking again before I go to bed, not too concerned about this now.
