Has the weight loss been investigated?

I am reading your your posts you are now losing weight now without trying or have I misunderstood?

Yes lost 1-2 lbs in a week still exercising walking etc so need a different diet keeping off rice gone on to potatoes etc but just finding bit difficult.

Yes Anitram probthats whatishould try.I tried counting carbs when dieting found it difficult and gave up,but yes may well try that.

Hi @PeteT I seem to also have reached a point where I have to balance keeping my blood sugar down without going underweight. Based on info on NHS website regarding older people retaining weight, I have concluded that spreading my carb intake across the day may be the solution - so smaller portions with meals but some snacking between meals. I'm still monitoring this approach....though I think it is how I ate when I was first diagnosed, and it worked OK then.
I have to admit to not actually measuring what I eat, so the advice from @Anitram may be best, but thought I'd share my experience anyway.

Hi Nick,Yes while I’ve been dieting,I’ve just been guessing really and prob overdoing it a bit.1800-2000cals a day (a relation on phone just told me 2500)all seems a lot, especially watching what you eat.Just want something nice and simple.I’m going to try counting cals.I have test in 2 weeks, think I’ll be something like you.I suppose it wakens you up so you tweak it a bit, which is prob good thing.

2, 500 cals is the amount recommended for the average male.

Hi Pete
It takes time to get the new regime right, so tweaking is normal, and it's early days for you. Hope the test results are encouraging and you get things on an even keel. It's a marathon not a sprint, unfortunately... Cheers, Nick

If you are losing too much weight then you may need to increase your fat intake to give you more calories but without affecting your BG levels. Many of us follow a low carb, higher fat way of eating, incorporating natural fats into our diet, with eggs, cheese, cream, butter, nuts, olive oil, avocados and even fatty cuts of meat like lamb chops and belly pork. etc These fats help us to feel satisfied and stop us from feeling hungry but also help to stabilize our BG levels.

Are you checking your own BG levels @PeteT? Are you seing the sorts of BG reductions that you might expect from a low-carb meal plan? Or are your BGs staying stubbornly high?

As someone newly diagnosed, unintended weight loss is sometimes a bit of a flag that extra checks like cPeptide and GAD antibodies might be worth considering just in case you may have been mis-classified.
