Hello,

I am new here and will try to read and search previous replies.

My HBc1A are very high, a few years aho they were 150, now they are 102? Still too high.

I am taking the maximum Metformin, as well taking Glucazide and Canagflorizin.

My reads range from 5.6 to 9.0 in the morning.

My diet is Asian foods and I desperately need to avoid high carbs especially, rice, chapati and potatoes which are the main foods that keep me full.

I look at people eat on these forum and it is fantastic, I need to better I know and my eyesight has suffered greatly.

Can you please advise?

Thanks Niaz

Hi @Newbie777 and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried the following substitutes:
Cauliflower 'rice' instead of rice.
Celeriac instead of boiled, roast potato or french fries, (califlower mash is a good substitute for mashed potato).
There are also various 'Keto bread and Chaffle recipes which may be decent substitutes for Chapati.

Thank you Ianf0ster,

I was not aware of these items, so will check them out.

I need to be completely honest, the 2nd part for me which is equally important is portion control, I hink to look to reduce my food intake at Lunchtimes by 70%.

My lunchtime read after 2 hours is 16.3 today, with 1 chapati and scrambled egg with black pepper!

I will ordered some Burgen Bread using 3 or 4 pieces instead of chapati, as I think one chapati possibly has about 100g plus of carbs!

THank you

I have just looked into the food you recommend and they all look really nice and good alternatives, so am going to try them out.

Thanks

It sounds like your bread is the culprit for the high reading at lunchtime, how big is the chapiti, you should weigh it 100g of buttered chapiti is 48-55g of carbs, I would say a 100g one would be pretty small, 4 slices of Burgen soya linseed bread would also be around 50 g of carbs
You should look into learning to carb count,
Carbs & Cals book or the phone app would help you a lot

Yes lunchtime is the issue and It is a large chapati, so must be more than 100g in weight and more than that in carbs.

i think I need to get carb down to about 50g per day.

Also am good for my Tea, usually stick to grilled chicken/fish with salad

Breakfast is 2 pieces toast and 2 weetabix in milk or porridge,so can work on this.

Thanks

Hello Martin,

Congratulations.

i am used to eating and crazing all day.

I totally agree, I need to limit my Carbs each meal.

I will look at the alternatives straight away.

Also I will look at eating unsalted nuts and an apple for snacks.

Thanks

Thanks Martin,

Oh no I did not know, I think Carbs are everywhere!

I will now look at carb counting.

Appreciate your help, I am gutted as I have been so naive not thinking of the smaller picture, I have to adjust quickly and minimise Carb intake, this is going to be so hard, but I have to do it!

Sounds like your teatime meals are good, I would try toast or Weetabix not both, try an egg as a replacement, no carbs in eggs... porridge can be tricky for some people too.
I try to keep as near as I can to 100g of carbs a day as I can and still enjoy my food with a treat a couple of times a week, I’m T1 so I can just take some extra insulin but I think T2 people have to be a bit more strict on themselves with the carbs. But that said there is plenty of interesting food out there, it’s just training ourselves is the hard bit especially when pretty much everything in the shops are carb based

Google 'Headbangers Kitchen'. Lots of low carb keto recipes for chapatis, nan breads etc.

i am very hungry in the mornings and the breakfast is a lot lot than before, but I will stick to one item and add the egg.

For my Tea today, I had grilled chicken with salad and was still hungry so I tried a piece of wholemeal (reduced sugar bread) with peanut butter, 2 hours later my reads was 10.1, sp slightly high...Also, I will not have anything to eat till 8.00am, so a 14 hour fast.

So going forward I will cut back on the carbs and try the replacement for the chapati.

Also my sugars do improve with exercise as I have a treadmill at home, however, due to my recent Vitrorectomy, I am not allowed to exercise, walk or jog.

i just need some help regarding medicines and see if I can try or mix other types.

Thanks for your advice, you have been a great help.

Before breakfast my read was 6.5. After two pieces of bread with peanut butter and a boiled egg & cup of tea, after 2 hours my read was 9.9, I took two 500mg Metformin, 1 Glicizide and 1 Canagilflorizin this morning, so possibly need to look at alternative medicine?

Rather than trying new meds why not cut out the toast? It is full of carbs. As a first step try one slice rather than two

Yes I will try that, my main concern is that i I am taking a lot medicine and not eating that much. But as you have suggested it is about Carb intake.

Also, the bread I had is two slices of the small size bread, hovis nimble wholemeal which has reduced sugar.

Tablet medication does not work directly on the carbs in a meal like that. As @adrian1der suggests, try reducing the carbs - if you don't want to cut out the bread completely, try 1 piece of bread and 2 eggs - or no bread and 3 eggs?

Ok thanks, its a lifestyle choice and will try it, I am just used to a big breakfast and lunch.

I need to do something that I can stick to and will give it ago, hoping the medicine will be fine to take.

but thanks for the good advice and I will start working with eggs

Glicliazide works by stimulating the pancreas to produce more Insulin.

Oh ok thanks,I am taking 2 Glicizides a day and Gp wants me to take 3, not sure about this

This morning I had a vegetable stew in the fridge, into which I put the last part of a joint of meat chopped small and simmered for half an hour. It was low carb and very filling - I have enough left in the pan for another meal.
