Type 2
hello everyone.. I'm having a feeling dizzy day today.. any suggestions as to what I can do to stop it please... I'm type 2 since December.. take metformin in the morning.. no monitor.. I had portage for breakfast.. and salad sandwich for lunch... dizziness started about 1hr after breakfast... any help appreciated thanks....

Without knowing what your BG levels are it would be impossible to advise and you should seek medical advice if you are concerned.
You obviously had quite a lot of carbs so it is unlikely to be a false hypo. Porridge and bread are both high carb foods. It might be that your BG has gone too high but you would usually feel sleepy or fatigued if that was the case. What was your Hba1c reading?

hi.. thanks for rely.. my last blood test was 48 that's all I was told.. and I have to have another blood test in February... I just wondered if it was because of something I've eaten.. or if there was something that I should have eaten.. if that makes sense....

Without knowing your Blood Glucose readings when you feel dizzy, it would be difficult to say for sure but since your HbA1c of 48 is very borderline, I would very much doubt the dizziness is down to your diabetes. You really do need to mention it to your GP though.
As regards food, I am not sure if anyone has explained to you but diabetes is all about an inability to metabolize carbohydrates effectively. Carbs are not just sugar but also starchy foods and anything which contains those. Porridge oats are about 63% carbohydrate so it could be causing you a problem. Similarly, bread is high in carbs with each slice being about 15g carbs. Since you are only borderline diabetic, reducing portion size of items like these is probably enough to control things so maybe only having half as much porridge as you normally would but have it with some creamy Greek natural yoghurt and a few berries and perhaps some mixed seeds or have bacon and eggs instead for breakfast but no bread or toast and just one slice of bread with your sandwich at lunchtime but have other things with it like a chunk of cheese or some olives or veggie sticks with dips or a chicken drumstick.

thank you all for your replies... much appreciated..any advice on diet is very welcome... I'm need to ring doctors in the morning about other medication that I take so will mention it... I do realise that diabetes is not the cause every time I feel under the weather...but at the moment until I've had a proper talk with my doctor about it.. my suspicious mind gets the better of me... .. thank you for taking the time to answer my daft questions... my dn recommended I looked on your site... I'm so glad she did... thanks again...

Hi. On here their is no such thing as a daft question. It’s only a question that you need answered. So please keep asking , ok.

I hope your doc can help re the dizzy spells.

Re suitable foods for T2s , it’s carbohydrates that you can’t handle too well, esp the starchy ones, ie pasta, potatoes, rice and bread. We often need to be careful with fruit , often anything with berry as part of its name is tolerated better.

We usually have no problems with protein and good fats.

With those dizzy spells do you have any other symptoms.

Hope you manage to have a chat with your Dr and they can put your mind at rest about your dizzy spells @Vee

Are they still happening after breakfast? Do they happen when you stand?
