Not really sure in my purpose of posting this guess I could do with a little support, I have lost weight which I worked really hard at especially during a pandemic and the associated stress (I'm a comfort eater normally) but despite losing a stone and a half my hba1c is 98 (10.7) , I'm type 2 well at the moment I'm waiting on a blood result to see if I'm LADA as consultant thinks my pancreas might be on its last legs, so insulin might be required in the new year,

I just feel bit down like I worked so hard changed my diet I'm mostly low carb now but it didn't give the results I was looking for plus I've developed something called orthostatic hypotension which means I feel faint whenever I stand up and I feel rubbish due to my glucose being in high teens most of the time

Tell me I'm not the only one struggling right now ? My glucose has never been this out of control nor have I ever been this thin

@Elliebdays Don't feel down. You’ve clearly worked hard and you should be proud of that. It hasn’t been wasted effort and you must still benefitting from the weight loss.

If you are LADA, then that would explain your higher sugars, and that wouldn’t be your fault at all.

If your blood sugar is in the high teens, you’ll find insulin a huge help, and you’ll feel a lot better.

Thank you, I'm just feeling a bit under pressure by it all and worried about insulin as doctor keeps telling me I might gain weight and then there is trying to negotiate work and the learning curve it will involve ,
I will get there it's just all coming at once typical of 2020

Hello,
If you are LADA, there is nothing you can do to bring your numbers down without introducing insulin. So No1 rule is do not blame yourself it's not your fault 🙂 Remember you did a fantastic job in losing some weight and staying off of insulin for as long as you have. 🙂

Yes people do gain back weight if it was lost due to high blood sugars in the first place.
But you need to put on your sensible hat and realise that all the people on insulin are not overweight or look like the incredible bulk/hulk. (Unless they eat to much)

Try not to worry ok.
Listen their are loads of us with T1, T2 and LADA who are on insulin, if your doc is right , which he isn’t, we would all be fat , what make folks fat is overeating not the insulin.

Whatever type of diabetes you have, if you need insulin you need insulin and once it brings j your BGs down you will start to feel oh so very much better.

Thank you all for the support it's nice to know I'm not alone, i have made some proper lifestyle changes so hopefully even on insulin I can keep my weight down I'm just frustrated I guess glad I have new consultant though who has noticed a pattern in hba1c all my other consultant previously told me I just needed to lose more weight, but current consultant has noticed my bloods don't come down along with my weight loss as expected I'd never even heard of LADA til he mentioned 6 months ago. I'm just trying to process everything I guess

You might gain a little weight initially, but you’ll gradually be able to work with the insulin and adjust your diet as needed. It’s not as scary as it sounds, and once you get your head round the initial idea of it, you should find it more flexible. Getting better control of your blood sugar will be a very positive thing and the insulin will allow you to do that.

I was hacked off when I put the weight back on when initially diagnosed T1, being young (22) in 1972 and size 12, size 10 was my target and whoo hoo I'd lost all this weight, of course I even lost it off my face and all the folk who really knew me reckoned it never suited me dammit.

I have put weight on in most recent years and now weigh 61kg and size 14 instead of the size 12 I've been used to ever since I was about 15, but there you go.

Honestly, getting a proper diagnosis and the treatment appropriate to it will be your salvation, not your downfall whatsoever. Jolly well done your consultant I say! - hang on to him, he's a good guy!!

When has he told you to expect your test results?

He's hoping to have the results next week there is a bit of a delay with it being Christmas,
Yeah he really is a good one I was diagnosed type 2 at 23 and my sugars have been in decline since which he says is sort of classic presentation

So glad you have a consultant who is on the ball @Elliebdays

It does sound likely that he is right given what you’ve said, and the way your diabetes has behaved despite the changes you’ve made.

Don’t worry about the tales of weight loss. you've clearly shown that you have the determination and knowledge to make food changes that encourage weight loss, and those skills will work just as well when you are taking insulin.

And the forum will be here to support and encourage you with your insulin start if you need it 🙂
