Hello all.

A few details as just joined, but been reading some threads for a while.

Type 1 since 2005 at age 52, on Levemir and Novarapid and follow DAFNE regime.
Started Libre Nov 2020.
HBA1C pre-Covid was 57 (blood test), Libre calculated is 47, weight 63kg, eat fairly well, enjoy a few drops of red.

Hi there @Fagor

A very warm welcome to the forum! It's great to see someone who's been reading the forum join officially!

Please feel free to post, comment, and question as much as you like!

Welcome to the forum @Fagor from another late starter with T1 (aged 53) a while ago now.

How are you finding using the Libre. It was a game changer for me when I saw the massive spikes I was having after meals. It helped me to work appropriate timing for pre-blousing before meals at different times through the day, and also helped me to decide on an appropriate target number of carbs for my meals. They looked a bit small at first but we are healthier for it and now used to it.

I also like the ease of checking when I am out walking, swimming or playing sport. With this additional info it helped me to reduce my HbA1c, and more important to me increase my time in range.

Pleased that you have jioned outs and look forward to your contributions.

Welcome to the forum @Fagor

Glad you have de-lurked 🙂

Have you been using Libre for long? How well do you usually find the A1c estimates match up with reality?

Hi all, thanks for your welcome messages.

I only started Libre 26Nov2020 (I had been lurking around it for while, my health board were encouraging us T1s to use it). But been in contact with Abbott as had 7 "sensor error" messages on second sensor, all Ok after 10-min wait.

So far the main difference is ability to test anytime, anywhere and it saves my fingers. I have avoided several lows by testing mid-am and mid-pm (have a snackette), and also fewer above 10, some of which were possibly caused by over-correction. I haven't done any tests in 2 hours after meals yet but may have a few days of frequent tests to see if there are any patterns. I've also reduced my Levemir.

I am interested in HBA1C from blood vs Libre calculated value but don't have any data to compare yet. I doubt if I will get a blood HBA1C before summer. My last blood HBA1C was 57 (Jan 20), Libre est is 47, so I would be really pleased if it comes down.

Word of caution about the estimation of the HBA1C on libre some find it near the mark. I personally find it is way out for me despite having used continuously for 18 months.
