App for forum?

Hi @Harpersmum and welcome to the forum. Not sure what you mean. What would you expect this app to do?

Hi is there an app for the forums. Thanks x

Hello @Harpersmum ,

Unfortunately we do not have an app for the forum as of yet. But if you used your mobile phone browser, it does display clearing in it.

Thanks for your reply, hopefully soon they’ll be up to date with modern tech x

Ah well @Harpersmum if you want DUK to spend the money they collect as a charity on updating some tech which isn't essential rather than on life saving research - I'm sure you'll be happily making large contributions to the coffers won't you?

Hey, and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, there isn't an app just yet for the forums. As Josh said if you use the browser on your phone it should work okay.

I am aware that another diabetes forum (not a charity) has an app. I have never used it but there were many reports of problems with it thus proving (at least to me) that apps are not necessarily useful modern technology more investment is made to maintain modern browsers.

I think one of the challenges for charities is that app development is expensive, and ongoing. You can invest heavily in an app, that displays the forum on handheld devices across both Android and iOS, only to find that it needs to be fully or partially recoded within a few short weeks because a new version of the operating system has launched.

For a forum like this one, the purpose of an app would be to display the site in a legible and usable way across a variety of screen sizes, and modern ‘responsive’ web layouts can do that just as well using the default web browser on the device. 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know more about it.

Now now no need to get snappy. Is this not supposed to be a forum for support and to meet friends?

Yes it is. No idea what is going on with this forum recently but there's been an awful lot of drama queenery in the last week or so with people jumping down the throats of others unnecessarily.

I'm going to be charitable and say that it's the stress of Christmas :-D

Your question about an app is a reasonable one. As for the development cost, although I used to be a software engineer my skillset doesn't include web/app development or I would have offered to create an app for free. I'm sitting at home temporarily retired anyway whilst I focus on getting my health back since diagnosis. Maybe someone else better skilled has some time to offer.

Thank you pm133 I didn’t mean to offend anyone or suggest that money was to be taken away from vital research. We are all here together for the same reasons. Of course I would prefer a cure for my daughters disease rather than an app!!!!! I have issues logging in and it was just a simple question. There is a duk app but doesn’t have the forums. Xx

If you mean the Red Forum I thought they did have an app.
If you are having issues logging in have you contacted admin @everydayupsanddowns ?

I am so new to this. What is the red forum? I will contact admin thank you x
There is is another Forum called Diabetes.co.uk, totally separate from this one it has a red banner and background. Some people get them mixed up.
I tend to stay logged in so I rarely have problems logging on. I have just remembered there have been a couple of members mentioned having an intermittent problem accessing the site.

I would prefer to stay logged on and I have notifications set to my email. When I come back on it says I need to log in to see a reply for example, then says I’m already logged in but won’t let me access so I have to close down and start back up again :/ x

Sorry to hear that @Harpersmum

Are you clicking the ’stay logged in‘ checkbox? That generally keeps me logged permanently, though it’s easy to miss.

That’s the ‘Events’ app for Diabetes UK’s professional conferences. It isn’t connected to the forum and uses completely separate log-ins for conference delegates I’m afraid.
