As some of you know I had a very nasty toe last week. I started antibiotics last Thursday with the last due tomorrow morning. Last Friday the podiatrist cut out a bit of splintered nail which had caused the infection and cut my toe nail very short. He was insistent that he doesn’t want to see me again until December 11th. Below the worst photo of my foot was from the weekend, the other is just now. I really don’t know whether to go back to the GP after finishing the antibiotics or wait until December 11th for podiatrist. Your thoughts would be very appreciated.

Its looking much better that's for sure! To put your mind at rest though sending a pic etc to the GP wouldn't hurt AJ so do that if you'd feel more comfortable xx

Thank you Kaylz. I will phone on Friday to see if they will let me do that because they’re only making GPS available for emergency appointments xx

Well your other toe nails need cutting anyway Amanda, whatever your big toe is doing, and it does look better than it did.

Thanks Jenny. Medics are happy with the length of my toenails. I have more problems with infections when I’ve been to reviews and the podiatrist has cut them too short.

There's a very good saying .............. soak it and poke it. Works wonders with infected toes.

That's the approach I usually use Sue, although not so much poking it, and it usually works but not this time.

So much better Amanda pleased for you. xx

I usually wear sandals with enclosed toes but very wide - they take some finding but I can go anywhere in them. I have no pressure on my toes, keep my toe nails rather long as walking any great distance with short nails is a sure way to have swollen toes all around the edges of the nail and the corners digging down into the flesh which can be really painful. I only allowed that to be done to me once, and the person kept on cutting even as I protested that they were hurting me.
I oil or put hand cream or lotion on my nails once or twice a week to keep them soft, otherwise they tend to narrow and become brittle.

Toe nail update. yesterday afternoon I phoned the GP surgery and sent the most recent photos. the prescribing nurse has just phoned me. The podiatrist that I saw was the chief one at podiatry surgery and he had done a partial removal of the toe nail which I didn’t know! Nurse was concerned that I couldn’t feel it when he did it and on his notes the podiatrist hadn’t mentioned infection...anyhow nurse said yes it is still infected and has prescribed me seven days of another antibiotic that hopefully shouldn’t make me feel as ill as the one I’ve just finished. Nurse also warned me to have painkillers before I see podiatrist next week in a se he decides to remove more of the nail.

Good luck with the next appointment got mine on Monday. xxx
