Relationship to Diabetes

Hello, after yesterday’s panic, thank you for the responses. I’m Emma, age 57, type 2 diabetic for 5 yrs (approx). Just developed symptoms of neuropathy,very psinful. This autocorrect is doing very odd things!!
 
to continue. My doctors have never offered any teaching or equipment to do blood glucose levels so I have no idea what they are daily. I recently had a checkup and they were higher than before even with a big weight loss and cutting all carbohydrates out of my diet. My vision has been blurred for two months and the pins and needles last week. My doctors were not concerned and I couldn’t get a n appointment to see anyone. Now I’m in agony and been put on gabapentin. This seems to be working but I am almost suicidal with the pain still.
 
Good morning Emma I read your last line with shock please don’t go there, why are your doctors not supporting you with a blood glucose meter and test strips. You really need one, if you can afford one go to online and search cheap blood glucose meters there’s some very cheap ones out there, if you can’t find anything private message me and I’ll find you a kit to get you started and get it to you
I read some of your posts and it sounds so terrible to hear someone suffering so badly you must get help somehow, I would be camping out on my doctors surgery for help don’t be shy about putting pressure on your diabetic team to help you.
 
Paulbreen, thank you. What’s a diabetic team? I have one doctor who specialises in diabetes but it’s almost impossible to see him and now very difficult to even talk to him. He only works two days a week at my surgery
 
I see a nurse once a year and that’s been it except for foot clinic at the hallamshire who couldn’t help me. The other Sheffield hospital s podiatry clinic finally saw me in March to remove my toenail. But it’s all disjointed and they candy wait to get to discharge you completely. I have never been given spadvice other than lose weight which I’ve just done and now it appears this has damaged my nerves. I’m in so much pain
 
Type 1s tend to refer to their team, T2s rarely have a team, usually just the GP (or not) and the nurse at the GP practice who deals with the diabetics, but is very unlikely to be as highly trained as the DSNs (Diabetic Specialist Nurse) at a hospital clinic.
