Ok so I’ve become an evening carb monster!!! I’m fine during the day but it hits say 7.30 onwards and BOOM! The monster appears and I reach for wotsits, snack a jacks, fruit, chocolate. I need ideas on things I can snack on that are either very low or no carb preferably SlimmingWorld friendly please. I know this maybe a big ask!!

Why SlimmingWorld friendly?

You can lose weight without counting calories or starving yourself. And if you do it via a 'Way Of Eating' as shown on Channel 4 on Thursday then you are more likely to be able to keep the weight off.

I adopted a Low Carb High(er traditional) Fat way of eating to beat my Type 2 diabetes and no calorie counting, no additional exercise, no diabetes medications were needed. plus I lost 1/6th of my weigh without even trying to!

Although I try not to snack or over-eat, I make sure that when I do they are all on Low carb things (even if high in traditional fats). I snack on nuts, olives, biltong or similar dried meats though my favourite is cheddar cheese.

And in case you think that animal derived fats are bad for you, when the Japanese government did a study of the people on Okinawa who famously live much longer than those on the mainland, despite reports of vegetarianism it was found that they had higher meat consumption, higher dairy consumption and higher Cholesterol and that none of those over 100yrs old were vegetarians.

Because I’m currently following slimming world to lose weight as diabetic nurse gave me a 12 week voucher to try it to see if it works for me. If it doesn’t come the end of the 12 weeks I’ll try something different. If I could just exercise to keep the weight off I would but I’m limited to what I can do due to fibromyalgia so I’ll walk, yoga, Pilates, I would swim but our local pool isn’t covid safe so can’t open properly. I’ve tried calorie counting etc know the science the out needs to be more than the intake. But I’m more worried about carb atm so most snack suggestions that are low carb will be SlimmingWorld friendly anyway as they are low-fat/ low gi based. I also don’t know how it turned into a vegetarian debate, I mean I’m neither vegetarian or vegan I tried it previously but I struggle to absorb protein from plants due to another condition I have so was severely malnourished but that’s just my broken body tbh. I won’t bore you with all my conditions

I did not reply earlier as I have no idea about Slimming World as I have never done or been interested in it. Do they give you a list of snacks allowed?

Not knowing you or what you enjoy eating - other than the 'c**p' you've mentioned LOL - it can be hard to suggest substitutes but whatever you settle for the key is to have a supply ready and waiting so when you get the munchies in the evening, they're as easily grabbable than a packet of Wotsits.

Firstly don't buy them!

Carrot sticks, small cubes of cheese, one buttered sesame seed Ryvita, 4 or 5 raspberries, one Ryvita Thin any flavour ........

Other thing you can do is to actually vary your activity in the evening - do you have any ironing you could do, have you cleaned inside all the kitchen cupboards recently, could you go for a walk, phone whoever and have a chat? - anything!

No more of a list of free foods (you can eat at much as you like of) some are classed as “speed” because they are better for you than others basically most fruits and veg.

Actually that’s really helpful thank you, crisps and stuff like that are in the house because of kids lol so it’s more pinching their stuff

Mrs been doing SW for last year, reached target weight so on maintenance diet now after 5 stone weight loss.

She like those HiFi bars & snacks on bit of fruit, bars low in carbs, maybe about 8g. Any food on free list you can snack on freely, just check nutritional value for carb amounts.

The app is good, you can scan barcodes on packaged foods it brings up nutritional value on phone.

I like celery with a bit if philli cheese in the groove, also a few walnuts.

Sugar free jelly with some berries and dollop of crime fraiche, also I like coconut chips to snack on!

hi, i do SW , i have the houmous and veg sticks. its free 🙂 try to keep my syns down during day and if need sweet treat a hot choc options are 2 syns with a rich tea 2 syns. i now eat larger tea, 6pm, lots of veg and feel fuller for longer. Hope this helps

Buy a pack of chicken thighs - the ones in Lidl were 1.8Kg last time I looked !!! and still dead cheap.
Roast them on a rack so they skins are crispy, and put them in the fridge, also in Lidl you can get packs of ready made salad or frozen stirfry - two sorts, so if you are hungry in the evening make a humungous salad and eat the crispy skins as you cut up the meat to add into the bowl, or cut up the meat and add to the stir fry - it is only a few minutes preparation time, but have a large mug of coffee with cream as well. Eat until you are stuffed.
Forget Slimming World - eat low carb and the weight should fall off without effort, and you'll have a good chance to beat diabetes at the same time - if you are a plain ordinary type two, and with any luck. Plus, your thoughts of eating carbs will fade - they are addictive, but good nutrition really can break the hold.
I had about 20 years of trying to follow dieting advice from clubs and printouts from doctors (when all added up) and I might as well have not bothered as it made very little difference to my weight but slowed down my metabolism almost to a standstill.

I agree, I went low carb in August, so far lost 1.5 stones, eating higher fats makes me feel full and so I am not tempted to snack, also no longer bothered by chocolate or other sweet stuff when everyone else is eating! Very little effort other than annoying my husband by reading very small food labels in shops taking twice as long to do the shopping!

I followed the SW diet about 5 years ago & lost over 4 stone so it does work. Unfortunately then just stuffed my face & put it all on again. It is very carb heavy...unlimited pasta, rice, noodles etc so if you're watching carbs you need to be careful. Choose lots of low carb veg to fill you up. I've swopped to a low carb, normal fat diet & have lost 2.5 stones since August. I'm not hungry or craving sweet things. It's just a shift in emphasis & you can still make family friendly meals. Leave out the carbs for you & have another veg. Lots of ideas & helpful people on this forum. Good luck!

I did SW 21 years ago and lost the 3 stone I needed to, which I kept off for about 8 years before it started to creep back up leaving me 4 stone too heavy this year. I have tried to go back to SW over the last couple of years, but I find it confusing and quite carb heavy. I was happier with the red and green days.

Since being diagnosed I've just cut out spuds, bread, rice and pasta and lost over 3 stone. I'm also no longer hungry now I'm not eating those things. Having said that, I do fill up on a glass or 2 of red of an evening, so maybe that's why I don't miss my snacks!
