When @everydayupsanddowns moved into the mod position way back when, there was talk of someone joining him and finally here I am! As I was existing DUK staff I agreed to stay in my old post until it was filled and then some pandemic happened and added to the delay. I have been trying to gradually get more familiar with the forum and can now officially move over properly from Monday and wave my old role goodbye.
As I’ll be on the forum a lot more I thought I’d let you all know who I actually am and what on earth I’ve been hanging around for. Regulars might have seen me posting the odd thing here and there over the past couple of months and I think it’s time for a proper introduction.

I have worked at DUK for 13 years, most recently as Information Coordinator which involves keeping the Helpline's reference information up to date and supporting them with more obscure enquiries. I was also responsible for reporting some stats around how many contacts we have and what people are getting in touch about, flagging recurring issues to policy and campaigns teams.

I am moving to the forum role for hours that fit around my other commitments - I am a full time student and parent to 4 children, but am also looking forward to a role which has more direct engagement with people, something that has been missing from my work in more recent years.

My 16 year old son has Type 1 and was diagnosed aged 2 so I have been acting pancreas with varying levels of intensity for the past 14.5 years. From a start on 2 mixed injections a day (that was not fun!) and then to MDI before pump. Then came various extra bits, enlight sensors and Libre before settling more recently on Dexcom. He’s waiting to upgrade his pump to a T-slim as soon as clinic returns face to face to make use of the basal IQ feature.

I look forward to getting to know you all more and do get in touch if there’s anything I can help with. 🙂

Lovely intro Lucy and thanks for telling us a bit more about yourself and your role.

Many thanks for your commitment to DUK and helping people both through the official site/organisation as well as here on the forum. I can tell from your calm approach and significant experience that your posts are a great comfort and support to people as well as the content being practical and knowledgeable.

Hi Lucy, nice to have you on board 🙂

Welcome and hope to talk more soon.

Welcome Lucy. Great to have more of your time for the forum,
your contributions are so helpful, especially for other parents.

Hello Lucy 🙂

Hi Lucy, good luck in your new role.

All the best in the new role Lucy.

Great to have you as part of the forum Lucy 🙂

Well done Lucy we all value your experience and guidance, look forward to seeing you more on the forum.

Welcome.🙂

What they all said from me too. I'd been wondering why you only chipped in just occasionally, when it seemed you very often had helpful comments to make!

Today is my last day at Diabetes UK and so my last day on the forum, at least in a professional capacity. I may be back at a later date as a member myself but for now with the start of the academic year and work placement for me, I simply don't have the time for very much else.

I have really enjoyed my time here on the forum it is a remarkable community, supportive, helpful, encouraging.....Thank you for all for making work such a great place to be 🙂

That’s a shame. All very best with you new endeavours.
