What do you like on your pancakes?

Lemon and sugar seems very popular, that’s the topping I can’t stand! I went right off pancakes when I was young, and eventually realised it was the lemon and sugar I didn’t like; either get a mouthful of grainy sugar which is a nasty texture, or a mouthful of sour lemon, I don’t like sour! Presumably if I’d mixed them together better it might have tasted better, but give me syrup or Nutella or similar stuff anytime!

Oh and meant to say that means it's Atherstone Ball Game. Not for the faint hearted!

My introduction to savoury pancakes was from the American Pancake House in Tottenham Court Rd in the early 70ies where it was pancake heaven.
I remember pancake restaurants being popular in the mid-1980s. I was in Oxford at the time and there was a good one there. I think there was also one (called 'My Old Dutch'?) in the City somewhere.

I remember a My Old Dutch along High Holborn when I worked near there between around 1980-84. You could buy the blue china plates that they served them on, if you wanted a souvenir. (I didn’t)
I also seem to remember an American pancake house earlier than that, in the 70s, somewhere round Leicester Square, I think.

I like sugar on mine so I've not had pancakes for nearly 25 years now! 😉:rofl:o_O

I did have a small American pancake the other month around my partners house and we had blueberries and strawberries on it. OK, we also had a squirt of 'light' cream on it too!

One does not use granulated sugar on a pancake - one uses caster, since it is finer.
I used to sprinkle icing sugar as I don't like the texture of granulated sugar. Don't like sugared doughnuts or sugar topped cakes either for the same reason. Can't eat them now anyway, not till BG is a lot lower :(

There is only one option for me - golden syrup, nothing else works.

Needless to say I've not had a pancake since diagnosis.... :(

I lusted for spag bol yesterday, so cooked mince with mushrooms, tomatoes and an out of date pack of Bolognese mix. DH had five homemade ones and I had two. Probably very naughty but they were enjoyable. I wanted mince in any form

Yes, that's the one! I remember now that it was in High Holborn.

Anyone remember the Jubilee pancakes you could get at the Little Chefs on the motorway?
I think they had a black cherry filling and came with a scoop of ice cream. Delicious!

Tate & Lyles Golden Syrup was always my fave growing up - not now though, for obvious reasons (far too much insulin in one go to cope with it!)

Yes, I remember! There was one just outside Guildford that my cycling club used to stop at: I had one of those pancakes once - and then regretted it when we had to climb a steep hill straight after leaving the Little Chef 🙄.

I had Maple Syrup on mine - and boy my numbers were high all night! That'd teach me.
