What do you like on your pancakes?

With Pancake Day almost upon us, I wondered what's everyone's go-to toppings? I recently had a conversation with a friend who said she has savoury pancakes (this blew my mind more than it should have - what a great idea!). What does everyone like to add on top of theirs? I'm a big fan of Greek yogurt with blueberries and strawberries on mine.

My introduction to savoury pancakes was from the American Pancake House in Tottenham Court Rd in the early 70ies where it was pancake heaven.

It was always butter, lemon juice and sugar for us as children..... and adults for that matter. Sadly no more as I really cannot find a way to enjoy sweeteners and I have tried pretty much everything on the market and have various containers of them clogging up my cupboards as evidence.

As regards savoury, there are other lower carb foods I prefer, but will occasionally make low carb wraps and fill with lettuce, mayo, black pudding/bacon and tomato.

Every year, we try a variety of toppings (always sweet) on our crepe style pancakes and, every year, we come to the same conclusion - nothing beats the classic sugar and lemon juice.

For some reason, fluffy, American style pancakes don't feel right on Shrove Tuesday although I love them other times of the year with blueberries or corn.

The best savoury pancakes I have had were gallettes eaten from creperie in Nantes. The combination of the nutty buckwheat pancakes and real French cheese (I forget what type of cheese) was wonderful.

I have never had (or fancied) a low carb pancake so I will be making sure my pump has plenty of insulin in it.

Golden syrup, or Nutella and banana

mmmmmm Im drooling now i love pancakes with lemon juice etc for me

This sounds divine! I think I must try a savoury one.

Classic lemon juice and sugar for me. Not too much sugar, though, it has to have the sharpness of the lemon coming through.
Ah yes, I am the same. We used to have lemon ones too growing up, but also ones with a squeeze of orange too.

Pistachio crumbs or Pistachio spread with icecream on the side (to balance out the sweetness).
Oh and, of course, a litre of water to wash it all down — it can get quite sugary!

I always use Delia Smiths recipe and melt butter in the pan then tip in a small jug and pour a little into the pan as I do each Crepe. I suppose I'm using ghee. Always lemon juice and a little bit of sugar. My gran used to do pancakes for her and my grandad ( not Shrove Tuesday) and stuff with mince. I don't know if she used fresh or a tin. I used to live in Portsmouth and they had breton pancakes with lots of different fillings in a local cafe plus we used to go to Brittany for long weekends and you could have a whole meal where each course was a pancake.

I didn't know I was diabetic last pancake day. Today I bought ready made pancakes from M and S. Effectively crepes and a smaller pack slightly thicker but smaller with spinach. I've looked at the carbs and will use them later in the week as a wrap. I'm having an eye op Thursday and want something to snack in the evening. I'm taking my sister to her GP so we might have one each after the appointment.

As a kid it was always a scattering of currents when cooking them, then a squeeze of lemon and sprinkling of sugar to serve, yum!

There’s usually a table groaning with options here…

Biscoff, nutella, bananas, choc chips, dried fruit, pistachio crème, hazelnut crème…

And I still can’t get past freshly squeezed lemon and a sprinkle of sugar. Its just the best!

Lemon and sugar all the way. I've been so stringent with my carbs lately and it's paid off, but I'm going to indulge in a couple of pancakes tomorrow 🙂

Hope the eye op goes well this week :care:

Feel free to share a photo of your pancakes, everyone. I hope they turn out how you want them, and taste extra delicious! 😛
