Hi Tracey ...

Hey .. thats brilliant 5lbs in a week .. well done hun :D ... Todays meals sound yummmyyyy ... and well balanced .... :D ..

Heidi
xx🙂

thanks heidi, i must admit though im finding it very tough, im so used to eating what i want when i want. i so want a piece of twril that is in our fridge rite now with a nice cuppa xxx

Ooh, also, chewing gum can often help if you're feeling hungry as well, as it sends messages to your brain that you're eating.. or something.. and it might relieve the craving for something sweet.. does with me anyway!! :D x

im going to try that tomorrow, thanks sophie xxx

Dear traceycat,

Like the others before my post, it looks like you are on the right track. However, I would suggest that you check, using a blood glucose meter, what things like shredded wheat do to your blood sugar. We are all different, so what suits me may not suit you. Why not get a book, say from Jenny Ruhl or Gretchen Becker (see books thread) to help you learn what foods you can tolerate? Most Type 2s find that bread, pasta, rice, starch, white flour are a potential source of trouble (high blood sugar), whilst veggies and some fruit (berries in particular) are OK in moderation.

Warmest Regards Dodger

BTW On a controlled carb diet (lifestyle really) you do not feel hungery. The science behind it is simple - if you prevent an insulin spike, you wont have a subsequent "low sugar" and hence will not feel hunger

hi dodger, ive started using a metre from last week, just trying to find now whats making my levels high, i had fish in batter done in oven the other night an before i had it i was 7.9 and after i was 15.9 so that wasnt good, im getting used to using it now but will take me a while to figure out the good an the bad but ill get there i hope xxx

Im not 8st 13 now lol I sit around the 9 st 6 area now 🙄 My love of chocolate caught back up with me!!
Yeah I can see where your coming from from the cottage cheese thing, its not for everyone, it was good for me though because it helped me cut out using sauces and fatty condements or spreads like philadelphia etc

You weight loss is going really well so far (well done by the way) so im sure you can keep it up. What were your "old ways" if you dont mind me asking. It might be helpful for someone to read and give you low fat alternatives to your old favourites? :D

my old ways, goodness were do i start lol
well i never ate breakfast, never cereal anyway. if i did have something it would be a hot sauage roll from the shop, i ate alot of crisps and chocolate even when i didnt realy need it, it was just cause they were in my cupboards (ive now cleared my house of all this stuff) ate quite alot of chinese takeaways maybe 2-3 a week 😱 mostly chicken in garlic sauce with chips an hlf portion of curry fried rice, an they gave you a bag of pawn crackers free so id have hlf the bag 😱 omg that does seem alot of food when its written down. i also drank coke which i have not touched since diginosed, i have sugar free juice now or 7up free. if i had a potatoe dinner it was loads of mash now its 3-4 small baby potatoes with plenty of veg. looking at this list i realy dont want to go back there again xxx

well its at least a good start now your attitudes towards your old habbits are changing :D
Oh i used to be a fiend for chinese takeaways until hugh fearnley whittingstall ruined chicken for me lol I cant eat it unless I buy it myself now (i am a weirdo) Instead of chinese Ill have a stir fry, theyre pretty good for you I think?
If youre a mash lover you should try sweet potato theyre low Gi 😉

Tracey, you're doing really well, it's really daunting to start out and some days i fall off the wagon ( today i had PMT, a doctor's appointment and had to wait for ages for somebody to stick a needle in my arm,it's no wonder i'm a little grumpy). Plus i have this addiction to carbohydrates which gets me down somewhat. What i'm trying to say is, don't get discouraged. It's hard to eat the perfect diet (if there is one at all) but you're deffinaet;y doing good! Don;t worry about asking too many questions, it's impossible, coz we all love questions here!😉

If you don't like the cauliflower mash you can do half potato and half cauli and its really nice and it lowers the carb content 🙂

You're doing great. The home made soup sounds wonderful, I like to make my own too.

thanks caroline. my daughter made the soup for me with fresh veg an stock, it was lovely, ive ask her to made it again for me next week xxx

You're doing really well Tracey. 5lbs in a week is great. Keep up the good work - and remember that if you fall off the wagon for a day (or even part of day) just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again the next day.

I'd suggest having a look at quorn mince too, instead of minced beef. You can find it in the frozen section.

I tend to use it in home-made chilli and make up a huge amount, eat some of it and freeze the rest in meal sized portions (350g of quorn will do me for 5 meals in all). I also tend not to have it just with rice, but with also plenty of veg.

I surprised myself when I used it for the first time recently. I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but it turned out pretty well. But, I suspect that it is a bit like cous cous in that it has no flavour of its own and so needs to be made exciting with some nice strong spices etc.

I'm impressed with your weight loss so far though! Great stuff! 🙂

Andy

Hi Tracey ...

I can so understand that .. Nathan was exactly the same .. especially as he has a sweet tooth .. a tip that I use with Nathan when he wants some chocolate .. is to but dark chocolate . the higher the cocoa content the better .. pop it in the freezer .. and just have a couple of squares .. it seems to just take the craving away .. and satisfies the urge for chocolate..

Heidi
xx🙂
