Hi @Ermintrude, I've just read through this thread, so have nothing to add except to say welcome to this marvellous place! Sounds like you've made a great start - continue like this and you'll see a world of difference. All the best to you from another type 2 :D

Hello again everyone.

Not been feeling well past couple of days, the stomach problem that sent me to the dr in the first place is really playing up. Leaving me in pain at times and feeling rough. Not to mention the awful tasting drink they gave me to help! I'm sure it's just washing powder!!! Certainly tastes like it!

So no "sweaty 30 mins" for tues and I dont know about today, but I'm going to clean with as much gusto as I can muster.

I have not given in on the sugary fizzy. Even though it's a very strong craving, not least because when you feel I'll it gives you a bit of a lift dosent it! But not had any Just water and max 2 cans of diet fizzy a day, most days 1.

The craving is horrendous. I feel like I must be addicted to sugar or caffine or whatever was in it! In my past diet attempts I'd have given up as soon as something like this happened, so even amongst the chaos of feeling ill and trying to get very reluctant son back to school and doing the covid tests which he hates, I still havent had any. Starting on the 5th day without today......

Hope e eryone is doing ok.

Sorry you're feeling unwell. Take it easy. Hope you get better soon.

Don't give in to the sugar craving! I've read that cravings are a good sign of your body changing/adapting and a last ditch attempt of those gut bacteria that feed on sugar fighting to stay alive and fed. Once you fully deprive them, they'll die off and healthier bacteria will thrive (something like that anyway, can't profess to be an expert on gut microbiome but maybe @everydayupsanddowns can enlighten?) Anyway, try to hang on, the cravings will pass.

Stay strong!

Hi. Sorry to hear you are feeling unwell and stomach giving you grief but well done for resisting. I know how difficult that is. The diet drinks will still be feeding your desire for sweetness and I found slowly diluting them by initially having 3/4 glass of diet drink topped up with water and gradually over the weeks, decreasing the diet drink and increasing the water content helped my sweet tooth to diminish. Now I usually just have an inch of diet drink in my glass and topped up with water and I am happy with that. I even sometimes have a dash of balsamic vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in with my splash of diet cola and enjoy the sweet and sour combo. Not suggesting you do this, but just ideas that you might want to try. I now have a much greater appreciation and enjoyment of sour and bitter flavours since I have tamed my sweet tooth.

You are doing great in difficult circumstances and this is the hardest part so hang in there and it should get easier.

ACV especially from "The Mother" is extremely good for you too! Very healthful.

Great advice on sugar-diluting tips from @rebrascora. Helpful as usual and much appreciated by me and others.

Hey everyone! Hope you are all ok?

So I've started testing with the BG machine today.

On walking it was 7.0 about 6.30am
8.40am just before breakfast but still not eaten anything at all 7.9

Then I had a favorite breakfast of mine mushrooms on toast. 2 sl wholemeal toast, thinly buttered. about 10 mushroom sliced up and fried in frylight.

1hr after 9.4 which is a 1.5 rise
2hr after 6.7

I'm so happy that a favorite breakfast seems to be ok. I'd feared I'd be giving up everything I like, so this has boosted my positivity a bit.

Hopefully lunch will be ok to as I'm trying out a favorite thing there too! I think if I tweak my favorite meals first and get them right life wont feel so strange .

Xx

So pleased for you and sounds like you are off to a great start. Always remember to not base any decisions on a single test. So try your mushrooms on toast breakfast a few times just to be sure before you confirm that it is working OK for you.
Personally, I would do yourself a favour and fry your mushrooms in butter rather than that "Fry light" rubbish which has all sorts of additives in it as well as being made from seed oils. These things are sold as healthy alternatives but may well not be in the long term. It is another one of these diet foods which often leave us hungry and wanting to snack later. Eating a little more fat will help to keep you feeling full until lunchtime.

Brilliant @Ermintrude. In my opinion that is exactly how to use your meter. Also, I have this theory that tweaking your diet is a good way to go and much easier to sustain than making wholesale changes but that's a matter of opinion.

Keep checking and you will soon find out the modifications you need to make to get on track.

Thanks @rebrascora , yes gojng to keep testing, dont want to 'spoil the ship for a ha'penth of tar' as me mother would say!
@Docb I've tried so hard to loose weight in the past and it's meant changing my diet totally , only to crash and burn. It's more vital now than ever so I'm going slow and steady .

Lunch was t so good, before eating 4.6 after 1 hr 8.8 so up by 4.2 and then at 2 hrs 7.2

My choice was a bit limited as my shopping hadn't arrived. So doing the 'eat what's there' thing. It was basically a cheese pickle sandwich and some crisps. I'm guessing the crisps and bread combo went over what I can tolerate. Probably need to do some sums there

Hello and welcome. 🙂

Don't forget there are carbs in the pickle as well... usually sugars but might have thickening agent too. It all adds up.
That said, the same (but opposite) applies as with breakfast, don't discount it after just one test. Your 2 hour reading which is the important one is under 3 mmols higher, so that's not too bad and it is clearly coming down from the hour test. Maybe replace the bag of crisps with nuts or a boiled egg with a dollop of mayonnaise or a salami stick and see how you go.

It was a great pre lunch reading though so you should be really happy with that.
