A "lifestyle disease"

Now that pees me off on a personal level

Exactly 12 months ago i started treatment for cancer.......part of that treatment was a 6 month course of meds that i got warned came with all sorts of nasty side effects

One of the less common side effects that they neglected to tell me (but ive found out since) is T2 diabetes!!

Of course muggins here got all the side effects including the less common one

So no it wasnt a lifestyle choice.....if i was going to choose something it sure wouldnt have been bloody cancer!! 😡😡😡

The comments reflect how some hospitals behave when you are a patient. I'm T1, was in for major surgery, and I moaned profusely, since their menu sheet gave no information at all on carbohydrate content. I pointed out that even things like soft drinks, which if sold in the shops would have a carbohydrate value on them did not have these figures. Eventually they sent for the dietician, (they were expecting her to say I was wrong), but she very quickly agree with me, and said they would see if they could get figures for the pre-packed stuff and publish a sheet for these, and give guidance figures for the meals. All their menu had was markers on the stuff with low carbohydrate and/or low GMI as 'suitable for diabetics', which for T1 is totally useless. T2 is the more common form, and a lot of T2 cases are triggered by glucose intake, which does have a semi-correlation to obesity, but it is amazing how many people have the single label for 'diabetes', and for T2 in particular there can in many cases be other causes than simple obesity. There is a correlation between being obese, and being more likely to develop T2, but it is not the 'cause'.
It also ties with the common thing in films with people not understanding the difference between hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia. You have a diabetic going into a coma in films, and the answer is always that 'they need insulin', when the most likely reason for a rapid coma, is that their BG is low, not high..... :(
In the last few years, I think I have only seen about one film that got this right.

What is the "shocking truth about diet and exercise" anyway?
You can always tell a channel 5 documentary...
... and is there an 'unsurprising' truth about diet and exercise to accompany it?

That the final arbiter of weight/fat loss/gain is energy in vs energy out, and that there's no food (Nope! Not even seed oils), nor any single macro/micro-nutrient, that is responsible for weight/fat gain/loss or illness.

Shame it never worked out for me though.
Over and over I was told I was doing it wrong, called all sorts of names but I could never, no matter how hard I tried, get the calorie hypothesis to work.
Low calorie makes me slow down, my temperature drops, my energy vanishes, I am sleepy and can't concentrate, I turn pale, white at first, then grey if I persist. I got a bit wobbly on the sliming shakes when trying to exist on just three a day of them.
Low carb, however, I lose shedloads of weight without any effort at all. I cut back a bit after Christmas and now my clothes are looser, my waist has moved down so my trousers are all too long. My energy is back and I am moving the furniture.

Just maybe your following a low carb/low calorie diet all the time @Drummer as you often mention that you only eat one meal a day, it would take some plateful of food for your one meal not be low in calories.
