I appreciate I won't be the first to have had a zero carb lunch but today I decided to have an insulin free, zero carb lunch. Well actually I forgot my sandwiches. Doh!!

Before lunch I was 5.4 and had a nice meal of gammon and egg.
1hr plus 4.9
2hr 4.8
3hr 5.6
4hr 4.7

I then had to have a snack of oatcake and peanut butter to get myself above 5 to drive home.

5.5hrs back down to 4.4

I've always wondered if the dip in BG levels between 16:30 and 17:30 was due to over bolusing for lunch but apparently not.

Not much wrong with the numbers at all. More importantly I think you have just picked tomorrow's lunch for me. Not had gammon and eggs for ages. Hmmmmmm...........makes me hungry just writing it gammon and eggs yummy yummy 🙂

Must admit it was rather a pleasant change from my usual cheese salad

you manage protein without getting a rise in blood glucose- that's a plus. I find if I have a cheese salad for example or anything other than a very small portion of meat or fish- my level rises and it's harder to bolus for regarding timing as it rises slowly so would need to bolus some time after the meal and risk forgetting it.

That was one thing I wanted to find out how I would react to the protein in the absence of carbs and insulin

I had a 'Day without Diabetes' for my 7th Diaversary last year 🙂 No insulin all day, and tried to stick to carb-free, although I didn't plan well and ended up with 25g carbs for lunch. My levels started at 5.6 and hovered around the 8s all day, with a 'spike' up to 9.3 after lunch due to the carbs (although that was only a rise of 1-2 mmol/l from my pre-lunch reading). Might try it again one day 🙂

Smoked salmon omelette for lunch for me today:D and no humalog
