I mentioned about my background retinopathy and was under the impression this was reversible and had made great progress with weight loss and bringing my HBA1C levels down. But I was devastated to learn today that there's been some additional background retinopathy which isn't affecting vision but the optometrist has referred me onto the specialist meaning to ask for a scan every 6 months.

I wanted to know your own experiences: what's your type of diabetes? did you have background retinopathy and how bad was it? Were you able to reverse your background retinopathy? Have you had your retinopathy progress further?

Thanks.

I have had background retinopathy in the past.
it has come and gone a few times.
lt has been gone for a couple of years.

I have had T1 for 17 years and maintained a HbA1C below 50 for at least the last 5 years

So it can still go away through a good lifestyle etc?

Hi @Purple_Panda
If your only being scanned every 6 months thats not so bad

I've been receiving treatment for the last 4 years,
I’m having scans followed by injections in both eyes every 8 weeks,
currently I’m on my 3rd glasses prescription in the last two years (for both distance and reading glasses)
