I decided this morning that I'm running out of places to inject on my tummy and my thighs don't want to know at the moment. Then I suddenly remembered I'd seen people on the TV (and some of my diabetic friends) inject sort of to the side of their abdomen into the so-called "love handles". So I tried it - ouch !! lots of blood - felt very sorry for myself - huge bruise.

This may sound smug but:

Memo to self : "remember, you don't have love handles" !! 😱

Oh dear twinnie! You can borrow some of mine! 😉 XXXXX

Ouch! I remember when I first left hospital I had problems finding places to inject. I weighed just over 8st and had a BMI around 17 = not an ounce of injectable flesh on my bones 😱 I was just one big bruise after the first couple of months! It can be a big problem for some people, especially since you are supposed to rotate sites. Are you using the 4mm needles Faith? If not, they might help. I have been injecting in my behind for the past 3 months - took me a little while to get used to as I can't see the needle going in so I had doubts of whether the insulin was going in properly, but my readings have been OK (no highs, at least!) so I am now more trusting.

Hope you can find somewhere that works for you Faith.

When I was young (many years ago !) I was 6st 7lbs when married. I saw Eartha Kitt on TV in a sort of leopard-skin jump suit, reclining on a chaise long. I thought - I could do that - but at 5ft it just didn't look the same when I tried it on our sofa !!

Thank you Faith Number 2 - do you deliver ? Of course we'd be in a "pound of flesh" (Shylock) situation so it might not work so well.......but thank you for the offer ! 😱

I tried the 4mm needles but couldn't get any better results - the "not pinching up" direction with them made it more difficult for me and I still bruised so I'm back to the 5mm. Not sure I could do my behind - there's not much flesh there either Alan. Perhaps I can get Ian to try darts practice on me.......😛

I wasn't offering my heart, in fact I could give you more than a pound! 😱 And I could send my son on his bike! Heehee. Seriously, I hope you find a better place to inject. Early days still for me and I'm managing okay with my thighs so far. XXXXX

How are you getting on with the Byetta ?

How are you getting on with the Byetta ?

It's working really well as far as it's bringing my levels down nicely. I saw my consultant on the 8th and he was very pleased and I've cut one of my gliclazides out because I was having a lot of hypos late afternoon. No nasty side effects at all and very little weight loss but I didn't expect to lose much. I've not noticed any difference in apetite, but I didn't have much apetite before anyway. My A1c came down from 12.5 to 10.5 in the first month and down to a lovely 6.7 after 4 months! :D

I've had no trouble injecting, but I think I was so ill before and I had to fight so hard to get on it that I was just glad to be able to do it and feel better. All in all a great result so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues. XXXXX

That's REALLY good - well done you. It's nice to get some good news on results. I see my lovely DSN at the Hospital on Tuesday (brought forward my November appointment at my request) so I hope she'll help me with some guidance on units of insulin to go up to - I don't feel capable of amending them too much myself as I've only been on insulin since January and am tending to just do as I'm told at present (well, there's a first time for everything !).

All the best,
