Hi everyone, I’m new here and wonder what is regarded as a low fat, low sugar fruit yoghurt. I used to like muller light and activia prune but worried about all my choices at the moment. Thanks.

I stick some berries in Fage Greek yoghurt.
Lindahls Kvarg yoghurts are low carb and come in various flavours.

If you check the total carbs of the yoghurts you are considering you will find quite a difference between brands and whether they have fruit or other additives even those 'low sugar' can be quite high in carbs. Many opt for Greek yoghurt, the full fat tends to be creamier and less acidic and with your own added berries will be lower carb than the others. The other option is the high protein yoghurts or Kvarg deserts which are both low carb and low fat.

Welcome to the forum @Doingmybest

Checking the small print on the nutritional info labels can help, remembering that it is ‘total carbohydrate’ not just ‘of which sugars’ which is the best indicator.

Another popular technique on the forum is to get a BG meter and take a reading immediately before and again 2hrs after eating something (either a single food item/snack or a whole mixed meal). Aiming for a ‘meal rise’ of 2-3mmol/L or less at the 2hr mark gives you a very direct way of seeing how your body responds to different foods/combinations. You may find some happy surprises, and also discover that some foods with a reputation for ‘slow release’ seem to be more of a problem for your metabolism

If you think this might be a helpful strategy for you and can’t get a BG meter from your surgery, the most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £10 for 50

Let us know how you get on 🙂
