Having failed to find Lidl's protein rolls or Warburtons protein bread, and Burgen getting harder to find, I actually came across this other bread in Waitrose the other day: Cohens Bakery Rye Bread with caraway seeds. A 400g loaf (small slices like Nimble but a bit denser), and each 30g serving is listed as 13.6 carbs, which I think is two (three? - my maths is hopeless) slices.

Anyway, I tested this morning, having 2 toasted slices with 2 rashers of bacon & a few chopped mushrooms & tomatoes, and large coffee with almond milk, the results being:

before breakfast= 6.0 (been 5s all week :()
one hour after = 8.3
two hours after = 6.2

Ah, not so bad. It's quite tasty, and I've bunged it in the freezer along with my remaining Hovis Nimble, Burgen, and Livlife from Waitrose.

We don't have a Waitrose near us. All commoners here in the Fens.

Sniff! Waitrose would not allow the plebs in, my dear, the likes of us don't mingle with such riff raff, dontcha know 😉😛 !

We had one a number of years ago ,it closed and is now a Wilkinson's! They were going to return but have now pulled out!

Stephen Fry is a fan of Sainsburys...but only because it keeps the riff-raff out of Waitrose. :D

:D😛:D We usually go to Waitrose for the main shopping - we also have a Morrisons, M&S and Iceland all within the same stretch! Morrisons is the only one that (sometimes) still does Burgen, apart from a tiny Co-op a bit further on in the other direction, and a Nisa which is opposite the theatre where I volunteer, about 10 mins' walk away.

So you'd think we are spoilt for choice - not when I'm looking for low carb bread 'n stuff, though 🙄

We have Tesco & Tesco & Tesco & Tesco! Oh, and a new Aldi that was a Co-Op.

Haha! Don't think we have a Waitrose within a 100 miles... Will google and see.

Oops, 61 miles. Bad B for exaggerating! :D

You are not likely to get one in the near future as they have put a stop on opening new stores!

I was at university (St Andrews) at the same time as John Rose, a scion of the Rose family bit of Waitrose. He was tall, devilishly handsome and a hit with the girls. And a total prick. That's just a by the way sort of thing...

Oi, you there, @mikeyB! The first Mr Marten was a Rose, but had nothing to do with Waitrose, as far as I know. Oddly enough my maternal grandparents were Sainsburys, but alas, no connection there either, or we might have been a lot richer than we are :(
