Hi - my name is Susie and I am newly diagnosed with type 11. I am trying very hard with the diet and exercise, but am finding low GI pushes my sugar levels up, has anyone else had this?

I am also finding it very hard to come to terms with.

Hi Susie, welcome to the group!

All carbohydrate will affect your blood sugar, although as a rule low GI should have a more gradual release of glucose into the blood. Some people react differently to different foods - unfortunately there don't seem to be hard and fast rules .It's possible that you may benefit from lowering your carb intake - there are people here that have good experience of this, and check on the 'recommended books' forum for books that advocate and explain this approach.

It's early days yet if you have just been diagnosed. When I was diagnosed and told what to expect it seemed straightforward enough, but now here I am 7 months on and still learning every day!

Hi Susie. I found it hard initially too - I lived in denial for about a month before I did anything. These boards are an incredible source of support and advice, or even if you just want to let off steam. I am currently trying with diet and exercise too so know how you feel. If you fancy a chat at all just pm me and I'll get back to you.
