Sorry I need to moan today,

Millie has yet another cold, not had more than a free week since the end of Sept, her BGs are steady one minute through the day and high and resistant the next, the temp basal rules don't seem to fit as no pattern to it

Nursery slow progress on top of this, teachers just don't seem to get it and so we continue to go in (how many weeks now?) We have a home visit from DSN next week to discuss funding for her to move things forward and hopefully appoint someone especially for this.

The other and only support we have is my mum who is mildly depressed and anxious because of her unstable thyroid, so she is not taking looking after Millie in her stride (has her 2 days so I can work) and I can tell she sees looking after her as a burden at the moment and everything seems such a hassle. I leave there struggling to compose myself before I arrive at work to sort out other peoples problems for the day.

Poor Hannah, older sis (9) doesn't get a look in half the time = guilt, frustration and generally unhappy.

Congrats if you managed to get to the end of this pity party lol! I'm sure will feel better after my week off next week 🙂

Aw, poor Millie, and Hannah :( I hope that she is feeling much better soon and that the nursery pull their finger out - funny how we are expected to pick things up almost instantly, but when there isn't that personal pressure people can drag their heels.

Hope you have a good week off in prospect 🙂

Really horrible situation for you Hanmillmum. :(

Has Millie got something underlying that's causing all these nasties ? I know if you're under the weather, you can catch anything that's going. Must be really difficult for you to know which way to adjust.

Can't really offer any advice but hope your mum can get herself sorted too.

No harm in unloading on here. 🙂

Rob

Thanks guys, appreciate your support.

Robster - think it might be because she is mixing with the other kids at nursery now and just hasn't had chance to get back on her feet before being exposed to more bugs, I am frustrated with it as can only be reactive when it is going high.

You go ahead and moan - we all need to sometimes and this situation must be getting you down:(

Just a thought - has little one been tested for thyroid recently? (you mentioned your Mums difficulty with this and it made me think. My K has an underactive thyroid and we struggled much more with her control until she was Dx and we got dose right. Just a thought which you have probably already had but if not perhaps worth a test?

Nursery really ought to pull their fingers out - hope they do soon and you can get a bit more settled xx

Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time of it at the moment. Luckily my lad is much older (16) and his sister older still. Even at their ages though I at times think all I talk about is him, and does it make her feel jealous? She never says so, but I'm sure had they been much younger it would have been really tough on her too.

Interested you said your daughter has so many colds though. My son was diagnosed 11 months ago, never used to get colds, but is on his 7th this year!! I couldn't believe it when another broke this week. I must mention it to his DSN or consultant at our next appointment. He never used to get more than one cold every 2-3 years.

Hang on in there, things will settle down. It's a grotty time of year too, that doesn't help. Christmas will soon be here 🙂

Hi,

Millies team have not mentioned any tests for thyroid ever, and rife on my side with mum and grandad over active, and myself currently underactive (though not by much now), they know the family history. Will mention her being run down to DSN next week when she calls round and thyroid testing. Despite the colds though she isn't poorly or off her food, still fairly active, just BGs running havoc and me feeling like I don't have any smidge of control 🙄

T'is a grotty time of year and certainly a lot of bugs going round.

Nursery is such a bind at the moment. There was a classic the other day, Despite the lead teacher's complete lack of knowledge she felt compelled to use Millie as a teaching session "... gather round children, form a group and come and stare at this young girl eating a snack...she has DIABETES....look how different she is and this pink device she carries around...." Ok slightly embellished, but you get the drift, promptly pulled up by OH and put in her place. Don't mind educating others but who the heck wants a crowd around them while they are eating and being talked about. Especially when you are the new kid. 😡
She excuses her actions by stating the children are less curious and more accepting if they are well informed. Yes but a time and a place !

I'm rattling on again 🙄

What the nursery did is absolutely awful and completely inexcusable. I would have felt awful if someone did that to me. I hope that life gets much better soon, especially as we are so close to Christmas

Thanks AJ 🙂

I agree with AJ - making Millie the centre of attention because of her diabetes is bound to make her feel different, and probably not in a good way - sounds like the teacher's enthusiasm for 'explaining' something that might be interesting for the other children exceeded her capacity for commonsense and respect for Millie's feelings. :(

Agree with others - Millie is at nursery to have a nomral nursery experience, not to be used as a "teaching aid". Like any child starting nursery and mixing with more children more often, she's getting more colds initially, although the frequency should lessen as she builds up some immunity. Unfortunately, while gaining the immunity, each cold is more difficult, as for her, it affects blood glucose levels.

Hope the DSN can come up with some useful suggestions and access to funding...

Can't add to what others have said, but hope sharing with us has helped. Things do get better, especially as childrens understanding improves and time off is a big help too. Enjoy your time off.

Thanks for taking the time to reply 🙂 Do feel better for getting things off my chest and getting support back, you're a good lot :D
