Had a fabulous dad and daughter day out to celebrate her 40th and my 70th at L'Enclume, Simon Rogan's gourmet mecca in Cartmel, Cumbria. We had the 17 item tasting menu with the accompanying 'wine flight' interrupted by a superb cheese board and yet more dedicated wines. The three hour extravaganza was unbelievably delicious and stands head and shoulders above any restaurant experience I've ever had. I remember seeing it on 'The Trip' a few years ago and thought I'd maybe get there one day. Another item scored off the bucket list. I'll go back for my 80th. The crowning glory, however, was that my anticipated BG nightmare didn't happen and my two hour reading was hardly up on the pre food one. Probably the alcohol assistance but what the hell, it was the meal of a lifetime.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Happy 70th. 🙂

Sounds delicious! Glad you had a great time and belated birthday wishes 🙂

Thank you for the good wishes.

Good for you...if you can't do that on your 70th...when can you?...sounds fabulous...great experience...shared with family...doesn't really get any better than that...does it...excellent way to mark your birthday Browser...have you booked for your eightieth yet?😉😉😉.

Just as well it's nowhere near enough for us, dunno I could justify spending quite that much on myself or for a present LOL

But - you enjoyed it very much - so actually it really doesn't matter a fig what I or anyone else thinks - does it!

Having said that I've never minded paying for whatever - if I think the 'thing' is worth the money and I know at times in the past where we've paid £25 a head, people thought we were completely bonkers too, cos you could eat at eg a Berni anywhere (though not offering a huge choice) for £7 and also enjoy that experience at the time. LOL

I don't know ANY chain where virtually every meal is a good one any more - I don't think I'm any fussier than I used to be - just like good food, cooked properly and presented well. I'm pretty sure the Anvil's food would meet those expectations, LOL !

Sounds divine and pleased it did not spike you levels.
