I've just rang docs and got my results down from Hba1c 12 weeks ago at 108 :( to 40 now yay!!! :D Lost 2.5 stone on low carbs.
Diabetic nurse doesnt see people now due to covid so have to wait 3 weeks for phonecall to discuss. Just wondering what next steps are likely to be. I'm guessing keep up diet and maybe slowly try to cut meds? Just wondering what others have done in same/similar situation?

WOW... You must be (and should be) delighted.

That’s fantastic news!

Tell us the tricks you used for you low carb way of eating and any fav cookbooks/websites etc!

My GP agreed to make no huge changes to my meds (reduced metformin but that’s the only change) and retest in three months to see whether BG levels have held and also to recheck lipids etc.

Brilliant!!!!

Next step? To make sure that you do not go back to where you came from and that means sticking to your new diet and sorting out your medication to suit. Personally I would not cut the meds until I have talked to the DN but look forward to that being suggested.

Have you got to your target weight yet? If not, keep going as you are on the low carb until you do. 🙂

That's a brilliant result. Really pleased for you. Shows what can be achieved with the right focus. Thanks for sharing.

Martin
Thanks Martin i see you achieved similar and did you then go on to try to lower meds?

DocB no i still need to lose around 2-3 stone to be ideal weight so will carry on with the under 70 carbs a day diet. Yes will wait til nurse advises me next step.

Work on "diet" you can live with long term, that won't put weight back on (that happens with quite a few people).
Maybe see what your next HbA1c is before reducing meds.

Yes Ralph i was at the same time as found to be Diabetic i was found to have underactive thyroid and given Levothyroxin to adjust thyroid levels and metabolism so this may have been part of the reason for being overweight and hence losing weight now my levels are normal. I do not intend to return to my old diet which included way too many carbs. I didnt realise potatoes, rice, pasta and bread were so high, and had been eating at least one of these at each meal. I dont have sweet tooth thankfully so dont miss sugary food too much. This fright was wake up call and i feel so much better now after months of feeling heavy, tired and depressed with no enthusiasm for life. Having my life back is an incentive to carry on the new way of living.

Brilliant news @Loobyloo
Well done. Great to see all your hard work paying off.

Excellent @Loobyloo, you must be over the moon with that result! :D When I dropped to 37 I was told the same as @ColinUK - no change except for a reduction in meds and retest in 3 months.

I think @Docb offers sound advice about not reducing the meds until you've spoken to the nurse.

Keep up the brilliant work! x

Wow! that’s absolutely fantastic news @Loobyloo
