I did a search and it seems the X-pert programe was discussed back in 2015.

I have been offered a chnace to attend for x 6 sessions. It appears to be an education and management awarness course with bits of weight loss etc.

Anybody done it and how did you find it?

My concern is that I lose 6 days work to go (self employed and can't work half days) and then find it adds nothing I cannot learn off the internet or via this forum.

I read the internal evaluation suggesting people tend to do at least 4 of the 6 sessions, and show some average weight loss, reduced BP, reduced BG and HbA1c numbers.

Hi Jasper.
I attended the full 6 week XPERTHealth course in 2018, following my type 2 diagnosis in 2017. For me, it was a real education and I feel that I have benefitted massively from attending the course. Like you, I had to have 6 days off work, unpaid, to attend the course, so I appreciate your dilemma. For me personally, it was 100% worth attending. Good luck whatever you decide!

Well - I did a course, but not that one, it had no impact at all though.
I used low carb eating and a meter, and was back to normal in 6 months - and three stone lighter. I did not have high blood pressure.
It seems an awfully long time to spend on the simple fact that eating low carb foods can sort out type 2 diabetes.

These courses seem to vary according to where you and the reports from people seem to be varied.

Like most diabetes education programmes, they are delivered on license by educators, or sometimes surgery nurses.

Both X-pert and and DESMOND courses have been updated, relatively recently. In each case, I understand the newer versions are more closely aligned to the more "modern" (all things being relative) ways of managing T2.

Of course, that doesn't help you much, @Jasper , but it does vary from place to place.

(I was never offered, therefore didn't attend any diabetes education sessions, so I have no axe to grind in this.)

Hi jasper
I have attended the whole 6week course, found it formative, and met others like me, had questions to ask,and it also gives you the chance to meet others who are in the same position as yourself, its not all doom and gloom, I would embrace it and ask questions if you don't understand what's being said, nobody will feel that's enbrassing, may want to ask the same question, good luck on your course and hope you fine it informative as I did.

I attended this 2 years ago. Found it informative. Run by local nhs dietitians and they had day or evening sessions. As I was working evening sessions fitted in fine. Still refer to book at times

Have managed to get them to let me attend in two parts in an evening so that can avoid losing time from work. Reassured by folks hetre it s worth going on. My wife is coming too.

well worth it for both of you and your wife, unfortunately my husband could not come as he is servely disabled, but saying that bought home a magazine and talked about the different things which was said,by hand gestures, getting there.I am so pleased that your wife can go with you.

Went to session 1 on Tuesday. Really useful. A few things I was completely blind sided by. Very useful accompanying book and (importantly) got to see my blood test results (Hba1C was 49 so pleased about that). My next session isnt until late November as I hopped on this session 1 as I souldnt do the session 1 in November and all of the other courses I couldnt do more than one or two sessions.
